Hey Bounty,

The reports that Chinese investment in Blackstone, $3B, will not help us. There is likely to be another bull run in Wall Street. I will cut my losses asap.

Luderitz, I have searched the web and found numerous references to the government waste-strategy report. However, most just refer to it being published sometime in May 2007. Sorry, I cannot help further.

Thanks for the link mitzis.

I think this is the relevant bit, for future reference: -

quote
Traders gobbled up waste service stocks before next week's government waste-strategy report. Cazenove believes that the £10bn forecast increase in recycling and treatment investment could be raised if ministers put in place the correct incentives and framework to achieve their goals. That should mean good news for the likes of Biffa, 3.5p firmer at 337.5p, and Shanks, up 2.25p to 273p. Particularly good news could also reignite the takeover speculation that has cropped up in the sector over the past six months.

It made Sunday research and reading a bit easier.

Cheers

I don't spreadbet logger, I used to. If I do short term margin trading, I use IG market CFD, which give you direct access to the market, far far better than any spreadbetting firms.

Er, so if I read your posts right, you keep a load of spare cash so you can fritter it away spreadbetting?

I opened a Dow future short position on June expiry, at CBOT, just lost about 20 points already. Like you, I will cut my lossed at 100 points. But let's hope for a quick, razor sharp correction for Dow. Let's see how long eternally optimistic Yanks can remain irrational

LOL watwungi - same here - stop at 13623 so max loss for me will be 100pts, unless I move the stop!

Very glad to hear that I have a short companion, bounty. I also committed a short position on Dow, with immediate loss. I rarely short, but this time I gambled already. When you are invited to bet betweeen treble winning Manchester Utd side and Barbados national team with equal odd, it would perhaps be foolish not to gamble.

watwungyi - I have a small short open on the Dow over the weekend (from this evening) and currently have most of my shareholdings in defensive stocks with strong fundamentals.

I think a good strategy is to keep some threshold amount for one's own favourite stocks, about 15, possibily 20, while keeping a good deal of cash. I mean the stocks which you intend to hold for very very long, a decade if not more, while keeping a good deal of cash. Any one of these 15 to 20 stocks could see weakness from time to time, giving you a good opportunity to add some more and sell the extra purchase later on, always keeping your minimum holding intact. Then you can avoid the problem of missing boat. Biff has been giving us very good opportunities to trade since beginning of March and accumulate more and more shares. Same with Tate, BGY, Meggit, MNE, Rex all of them are my long term holdings. Anybody shares any thought? Always welcome your comment.

Anybody interested in shorting Dow. The market has been up fbymisleading indicators. Consumer sentiment? What the hell does it mean? It's not tangible, is it? You can't be feeling blue when cancer cells are chipping your flesh and blood.
Volume has been extraordinarily low while the market is up since the beginning of March, usual volume is around 3B shares everyday, now it's been less than 0.5-0.6 billions everyday since two three weeks ago. MACD is reversing its uptrends. RSI is in well overbought zone. I would be really suprised to see Dow continuing its uptrend. Would anybody not be? Please share your thoughts.
I rarely short but now I am really really tempted to do so. If one shorted now and the following week saw a razor sharp correction, quite mouthwatering, isn't it?
