Uranium spot price this week $19.75 (TradeTech). I expect improvement in Q3 when KazAtom's new Swiss trading set-up becomes operational (think of it like a one company OPEC for uranium). For now, uranium producers go on hurting and losing money; which in the long run must be good for Berkeley as their competitors are slowly getting reduced.

Yes, I agree that we should take a long term view - after all, Berkeley isn't producing yet, and actually benefits from the current supply side destruction. Yet for all that, it's worth keeping an eye on the U3O8 spot price. It does seem to drive the movements in BKY's share price (probably due to the flow of money into and out of uranium exchange traded funds such as Global X URA). Right now we must be at or near the bottom of the uranium market, so it should be, or it soon will be, a good moment to buy into BKY.

Uranium Week: Turn For The Worse
Weekly Reports | May 30 2017

Having finally ticked up the week before, the spot uranium price plunged again last week.

By Greg Peel

For the second year in a row in 2016, ten new nuclear reactors began power generation, the International Atomic Energy Agency reports – the highest number since the 1980s.

At year-end, 448 reactors were in operation across the globe with a record net capacity of 391GW. Three reactors shut down permanently in the period and 61 were under construction. Last week the Swiss voted in favour of a referendum to prohibit new reactor builds and phase out nuclear power over time.

On the supply side, US uranium mines produced 2.9mlbs U3O8 equivalent in 2016, down -13% from 2015. The March quarter 2017 saw US production fall -28% from the same period last year.

One might be forgiven for thinking the global uranium demand/supply balance was tilted in favour of higher uranium spot prices, but nothing could be further from the truth. Two weeks ago industry consultant TradeTech’s weekly spot price indicator rose US25c to mark the first price uptick in two months, suggesting maybe a short term bottom had been found. Last week that price fell -US$2.00.

At US$19.50/lb, TradeTech’s spot price indicator is now down -26% from the high reached earlier in the year of US$26.50/lb, and only 4% above the multi-year low seen at end-2016.

Utilities were among the buyers last week, in which seven transactions totalling 800,000lbs U3O8 equivalent were concluded. But buyers showed no interest in chasing offers, forcing sellers to lower prices throughout the week. Buyers have become increasingly opportunistic, TradeTech suggests, stepping into the market only when sellers show a willingness to drop prices.

The term market is not so bleak, with a handful of utilities currently evaluating offers for delivery for periods out to 2029. Market participants remain confident term demand will begin to increase in coming weeks.

TradeTech’s term price indicators remain unchanged at US$27.00/lb (mid) and US$35.00/lb (long).

Latest Paul Atherley interview. As always, he presents the company very well. The only "new" news seems to be that we will have off taker and finance news in the coming weeks.

... fortunately not my decision

How 'sick' is sick? They do look robust but stunted.
On the other hand, the 30,000 new will be planted in rows I presume
and thinned as they grow.
It takes about 20 years to reach 20" diameter if I remember correctly.

Yes, the uranium commodity cycle will inevitably turn and BKY will be in a unique position to take advantage of the coming boom. In the short term (i.e. Q2/Q3 2017), Kazatom's entry into the spot trading market may help to substantially narrow the gap between the spot price and the long term price. I'm sure that would boost all uranium miners' shares.

Ten New Nuclear Reactors Connected in 2016, Bringing Generating Capacity to Highest EverFor the second year in a row, ten new nuclear reactors started to generate electricity in 2016, the highest number since the 1980s, according to the 2017 edition of the IAEA's Nuclear Power Reactors in the World. As of 31 December 2016, 448 reactors were in operation worldwide, with a net capacity of 391GW of electricity, the highest in history. Within the same period, three reactors were permanently shut down and 61 nuclear reactors were under construction. Two reactors remain in long-term shut down."In the past two years 20 new nuclear power reactors were connected to the grid and started producing electricity. This demonstrates the important role that nuclear power continues to play in meeting growing energy demand throughout the world," said Mikhail Chudakov, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy.

Summary of week's uranium news from U3O8:

While there were no transactions reported in term markets last week, utility interest in term contracts remains steady, industry consultant TradeTech reports. TradeTech’s term price indicators remain unchanged at US$27.00/lb (mid) and US$35.00/lb (long).

Little of that interest is finding its way to the spot market nevertheless. That said, the mere three transactions reported in the spot market last week, totalling 350,000lbs U3O8 equivalent, did manage to push TradeTech’s weekly spot price indicator up US25c to US$21.50/lb, representing the first weekly rise in price in nearly two months.

Global Uranium

Last week saw the restart of Kansai Electrics’ Takahama unit 4 reactor for the first time in fifteen months, following the lifting of a court injunction. Takahama unit 3 will restart operations in July, which would bring to five the number of reactors in operation in Japan.

An additional 21 reactors are being assessed for restart by the regulator.

The Indian government has announced plans for Indian companies to build ten new reactors in the country as a means of boosting not only nuclear capacity but the Indian economy. The country already has plans to build reactors aided by Russia and Western companies.

The Chinese and Turkish leaders have met and agreed to accelerate plans for the Chinese to build Turkey’s third reactor. China has also met with Saudi Arabia to discuss construction of the first nuclear reactor in that country.

Paladin Energy

China is also presently involved in shoring up its investment in uranium production. Australia’s Paladin Energy ((PDN)) has conceded to allow an independent valuation of its flagship Langer Heinrich mine in Namibia rather than try to fight China’s CNNC in court at great expense. CNNC will likely exercise its option to acquire the other 75% of Langer Heinrich it doesn’t own.

Paladin has been working with its bondholders on a financial restructure on the assumption the option is exercised. The company owns the Kayelekera mine in Malawi but that’s currently under care & maintenance pending improved uranium prices. Other assets include interest in uranium projects in Western Australia and Canada.

La Gazeta:Bet on development of Salamanca Berkeley Mining bet for the development of Salamanca's province another year more in all their aspects - economic, social and environmental protection - and, therefore, the VI Photographic Marathon of La Gaceta celebrated on Sunday, May 21. The clear and decisive bet for Salamanca and its people has led the Australian-English multinational to continue investing, without going further, in the municipality of Retortillo: children they can now enjoy a childish park; which adds to the forecasts of economic and social growth of the municipality. But it is not the only bet on the province nor in the region: sustainable mining that Berkeley practice - is one of the pioneer companies on Spain in counting with the UNE 22480 certification of Mining Management System Sustainability of the Association of Standardization and Certification (AENOR) – has led the company to an agreement with Vitigudino to plant between 20,000 and 30,000 oaks, with the order to ensure, renew and preserve the dehesa (countryside) ecosystem of Salamanca. The more than 90 permits obtained from different organisms has made possible to restart the sustainable project of Berkeley in Salamanca; in fact, the multinational supports its countryside work in the 'transfer mining' and involves restoration since the very first moment the mine starts, which has minimal impact visual and environmental. The Berkeley Economic Bet is clear, so they have planned 450 direct jobs - which directly revert to the province and region of Yeltes: 25 new people in the area have joined the multinational. In this sense, Berkeley Mining has formed more than 120 people from the region, which will revert in the future i stable positions and direct work. Holding up and boosting the domestic economy of the district of Yeltes in addition to setting population. To all this data of direct jobs that mostly impacts on Salamanca, more than 2.000 indirects jobs are added. With these premises, Berkeley is presented as a 'classic' sponsor of the Photographic Marathon of La Gaceta in their quest for the development of this land.

So there you go again lango...always negative on ATYM and always posting negative articles on here...

What is your position? Are you out here wishing to buy back? Are you in and plain stupid? Or are you out and just hell bent on damaging the prospects for other people...?

Meanwhile, this is the best analysis I have seen in a long time...the footnote implies that BKY could be very attractive M&A target at some time...Chinese, Cameco or KAZ footprint in Europe...?

Japanese reactor restarts after lifting of injunction

hxxp://www.world-nuclear-news.org/C-Japanese-reactor-restarts-after-lifting-of-injunction-1705175.html

Kansai Electric Power Company announced last week that it had restarted unit 4 of its Takahama nuclear power plant in Fukui prefecture. The reactor - which together with unit 3 has been offline since March 2016 - is expected to re-enter commercial operation next month.

Three other Japanese reactors are currently in operation: Kyushu Electric's Sendai units 1 and 2 and Shikoku Electric's Ikata unit 3. Another 19 have applied to restart.
