I must admit I was having trouble believing if the guy was actually serious or not with his arguments. I guess I should stick to reading Peribanez.

What an amazingly ill-informed and backward article - though it speaks more about Spanish local politics than Berkeley! And, by the way, Berkeley is an Australian company, not a British one.

Getting close to my stop loss. Luckily its only a very small position as I looked to scale in.

Fear the chart is rolling over here and 20's looming.

Who'd have thought it?

This conversation is getting silly. Firstly, I have cut down holm asks (the oaks concerned) on nature conservation charity camps to give room for other species of vegetation to grow. There is nothing special or rare or precious about them at all. Secondly, the "mere formality" will not take two years; that is the maximum term. In fact, the missing report from BCN is expected to be delivered in May or June (this year).

I'm as green as green can be. But, really, Podemos and its fellow travellers are simply crazy and destructive. How do you seriously propose that we cut down on greenhouse gases without using nuclear power for the next twenty to thirty years? Just replying "solar and wind" is NOT an answer!

IMHO

Yellow cake will be the fuel of choice in the next 5 years as safety procedures are improved and the environmental impacts of other fuels become more negative. I wouldn't be surprised to see more offtake agreements signed before production begins.

Maybe they could have suspended it before cutting down the oaks ? Are the oaks sold and if so who benefits ?

Unfortunately the 'mere formality' will take two years. It is also noteworthy that in an otherwise soft interview, the interviewer felt obliged to point out that 'Atherley gave the impression of not being conscious of the strength that can be achieved by the social movements opposing the mine'. Therein lies the binary nature of this investment.

No, not oh dear! The process of granting the permit is suspended pending the arrival of a report. I.e. it's just the wheels of Spanish bureaucracy turning very slowly. As Paul Atherley has said elsewhere, Berkeley have received around 70 of the 90 permits that they will in total require to operate the mine. It's a long haul, and good money for the lawyers involved, but I'm sure they will get there.

Dr Know! I read this in the original Spanish, and I don't see any problems reflected in this article. It is essentially a friendly interview with Paul Atherley with a little background info.

Putting the link above through the Chrome translator show it's mainly a description of the project with little or no new news, except possibly the following :-

"We are proud of what we do," says Atherley, who explains that his project has 90% of the permits needed to start extracting uranium. Currently, authorization for the construction of the mine is suspended by the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda pending a report by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN). But the CEO of Berkeley believes that this is a mere formality that will surpass without problems."

According to the calendar the company should shortly issue a quarterly report. With luck
some of the issues raised here will be explained. Ever since the days of Franco, Spain is perhaps the most bureaucratic country in Europe but it has a long history of mining and I think some people have been unnecessarily beating themselves up.

I think you are correct on both counts herlat. I feel the frustration of the management dealing with the constant need to have to push water uphill. The project will surely get completed but patience needed for those blessed with that rare commodity. Regards.

Thanks Marvelman. Sounds like the Spanish bureaucracy is grinding slowly! They will have the project constructed by the time the approvals are in place!!

SALAMANCA, 4 (EUROPE PRESS)

The Territorial Commission for the Environment and Urbanism of the Junta de Castilla y León in Salamanca has suspended the authorization process for exceptional use on rustic land for the uranium mine project in Retortillo (Salamanca).

According to sources informed by the Territorial Delegation, the Commission has warned, once the application file has been completed, that two reports from Retortillo City Council are missing, one regarding the public interest of the project and another about the allegations submitted to the project.

For this reason, the Commission has agreed to "suspend the authorization procedure for two months", in addition to requesting the City of Retortillo to, within a period of two months, decide on the two issues mentioned.

Likewise, it has announced that it will ask the General Directorate for Housing, Architecture and Urbanism a report on how the Territorial Commission for Environment and Urbanism should act in case the City of Retortillo does not decide on the public interest of the project.
