30/1/2019 15:34 | Wad, I cant say I am aware of that particular issue. However I can see it needing to be done at a servicing point, perhaps annually. I am aware that the early "stealth" jets (including F117 & B2)had an issue regarding the radar absorbent coating but it was resolved by a sort of body work touch up repair. I cannot see why a full recoat would be required. If it is an issue I bet it wont be for long! | ribblewader
30/1/2019 14:04 | Following on from an article above about F35 "The jet also requires very high maintenance cost, as the radar wave-absorbing coating wears off and needs to be replaced after every flight." Is that correct? Or just in abrasive environments? | wad collector

27/1/2019 14:09 | Bae sells majority stake in Bae Land UK to Rheinmetal The new venture, which currently generates around £60m a year in the UK, is aiming to become the European market leader in military vehicle production, with the aim to create new jobs in the UK. However, opponents of the sale argue that it makes Britain more dependent on Europe, going against the 2016 EU referendum result. “The sale of 55% of BAE Land UK to German rival Rheinmetall fits neatly with the EU’s agenda,” said UKIP Deputy Leader Mike Hookem MEP, “to consolidate military manufacturing and production within the bloc and is one of the stepping stones to the EU’s dream of a complete defence union. “Despite defence being a key issue in the referendum and while many people thought they were securing the independence of our armed forces by voting Brexit, May’s government has continued to sign the UK up to EU programmes that aim to aid and facilitate defence union. “When moves such as this merger are taken together with Merkel and Macron admitting their recent defence deal was one part of a wider move towards an EU army and Malta’s PM stating the EU were creating an army through the back door, we can see how the British people are being duped over future UK involvement in EU defence mechanisms.” Rheinmetall, which already leads the Artec consortium – which will build the UK’s new Boxer armoured vehicle, will also take over the production of the Warrior armoured vehicle, another of Britain’s well-known tanks. The UK government have said that up to 40% of the programme may be delivered outside the UK, leading to fears that Britain will become reliant on Europe for even its defence and military needs. | wbecki

Jennifer Osbaldestin, managing director of BAE Systems Land UK, told Jane's that the Telford facility stands to be a "key winner" in the project. With BAE Systems and Rheinmetall being competitors in the UK's Challenger 2 Life Extension Project (LEP), Osbaldestin explained that even if the JV is approved, the competition between the companies would continue. However, she confirmed that BAE Systems had agreed with Rheinmetall that the solution would be delivered from Telford regardless of the contract winner. | ribblewader
