15/2/2019 16:31 | Interesting look at the future of deciding a career choice..... New research by BAE Systems reveals three-quarters of Generation Z (centennials) want more information on tomorrow’s jobs and the skills they will need and more than half are worried about the right training to future proof their career. | ribblewader
14/2/2019 07:57 | BAE Systems awarded $74.7 Million U.S. Army contract for Holston Ammunition Plant modernization BAE Systems has received a $74.7 million U.S. Army contract to design, construct and commission a new facility that will improve production efficiency and modernize energetics manufacturing at the installation. | ribblewader
14/2/2019 07:49 | DeanF. Ah Ternhill, that was still operational when I first joined up (early 70's). Now an Army barracks but even now the runway is still in use by RAF as a flight training site. | ribblewader
13/2/2019 16:50 | RibbleWader I went to Sealand in 1950, on an ATC Gliding course. I didn't see much of the site, apart from the Officers' Mess and the airfield. Stoke Heath had 13 sites, as I recall, of which 4 or 5 were work sites, Coles Cranes, Bedford buses, General Engineering and Airborne Radio Servicing Squadron. Over the airfield was RAF Ternhill, flying Harvards at that time. 34 MU was a lodger unit on 30MU and was a repair and Salvage unit. We had lots of old aircraft arriving for breaking up, including a Lincoln with the Napier Eland turboprop mounted in the nose. I was helping to look after the Married Quarters, doing marching in and out inspections in company with the Barrack Warden. | deanforester
13/2/2019 14:05 | The UK is set to invite India to collaborate on a sixth-generation fighter aircraft, according to Indian media reports. | patientcapital
13/2/2019 08:26 | DeanF, yep thats the place. Back in your day was it split into two sites by a main road? If so I bet you would not recognise the place now! | ribblewader
12/2/2019 17:31 | Is that the former RAF Sealand, 30MU as was in 1950? We used to go shooting on the range there when I was at 30MU, by then at RAF Stoke Heath, in 1953. | deanforester
12/2/2019 15:18 | This is great news for Sealand, a base I have had dealings with for more than 30 years. Its also a good signing for BAE. The UK F-35 avionics and aircraft component repair hub in North Wales has been awarded a second major assignment of work worth some £500m by the US Department of Defense. The winning solution builds on the innovative joint venture formed between the MOD (DECA), BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman called Sealand Support Services Ltd (SSSL). SSSL support work and services for F-35 are scheduled to commence from 2020.” | ribblewader
12/2/2019 08:13 | BAE Systems has received a $114.5 million contract from the U.S. Navy to perform maintenance and modernization of the guided-missile destroyer USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) in its Norfolk shipyard. The value of the competitively awarded contract could reach $136.2 million if all options are exercised. | ribblewader
11/2/2019 17:39 | I note the beeb coverage tells us a squadron of drones would cost around £7 million, then illustrates the report with photo of a Reaper. Not quite what Gavin has in mind I think. | shalder
10/2/2019 10:03 | Viking, F35 is an interdictor. Typhoon is an air superiority a/c (with developing ground attack capability). Typhoon (and other US a/c) and F35 complement each other to complete the mission. F35 is not an air to air combat aircraft but does have self defence capability (primary beyond visual range missiles of one type or other). Currently it is undergoing gun trials but these have yet to be approved/certified. | ribblewader
09/2/2019 17:17 | I just think it's armaments are far less than the Typhoon. | vikingwarrier
09/2/2019 12:22 | Not sure where you are coming from there Vikingwarrier. Are yousaying F35 does not have the interception capabiliy of Typhoon? | ribblewader
09/2/2019 10:06 | Yes the F35 has great capabilities but a complete lack of firing power. It would be running back to base every ten minutes to reload. The Typhoon though carries far more armaments. | vikingwarrier
09/2/2019 09:25 | German F-35 decision sacrifices NATO capability for Franco-German industrial cooperation "Operationally, the F-35 is by far the best airplane in this mix. It has stealth and battle-management capabilities that are a generation ahead of the Typhoon or F-18. It is a force multiplier that enhances the capabilities of lesser allied aircraft. If the Luftwaffe needs to penetrate heavy air defenses in a future fight, their pilots would be more secure in the F-35. The Luftwaffe without F-35s would be hard-pressed to fight alone ......." | ribblewader
08/2/2019 15:24 | Human error remains a primary contributor to cyber security risk BAE Systems recently conducted a survey of global enterprises on incident response, and found that human error is a major contributing factor to cyber breaches. While threats evolve and grow in volume, lack of awareness and limited training for employees expose organisations to increased risk. | ribblewader
08/2/2019 12:45 | MBDA and Raytheon UK have been awarded separate contracts by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc (GA-ASI) to respectively integrate the Brimstone 3 precision strike missile and Paveway IV precision-guided munition with the UK Royal Air Force's (RAF's) future Protector RG Mk1 remotely piloted air system (RPAS). | ribblewader
08/2/2019 12:35 | Hmm .... well I wonder what a/c Germany could possibly buy to supplement the Luftwaffe, that isn't American, covers the gap for Tornado out of service, and adds to the target for the 2% GDP spending on defence challenge from Trump .... oh, that they already have, and that their industry is party to producing .... tricky one that.Just a thought .... | squidsgone
08/2/2019 12:30 | I was hoping this would be a week where BAE would cast off a shackle or two. Looks like thats on going for now! | ribblewader
07/2/2019 16:11 | Sweden has received its first four Granatkastaranscarba | ribblewader
07/2/2019 15:34 | Germany & France working on a new generation fighter. "Dirk Hoke, Chief Executive Officer of Airbus Defence and Space, had warned the German government against the purchase of the F-35. “As soon as Germany becomes an F-35 member nation, cooperation on all combat aircraft issues with France will die,” Hoke said in an interview with Welt Am Sonntag which can be found here." With BAE workign with Italians, and possibly Swedes. So no surprise they've dropped the F35 tbh. It's as much as "political" decision as anything else I suspect. Nice find. | wbecki
