Rheinmetall AG (RHM.XE) and BAE Systems PLC (BA.LN) are to create a U.K.-based joint venture for land systems, the German company said Monday.

Its headquarters will be based at BAE Systems' facility in Telford, England.

It will sustain more than 400 jobs in the country, Rheinmetall said.

Rheinmetall is to purchase a 55% stake in the existing BAE Systems U.K.-based combat vehicles business, with BAE Systems retaining 45%, Rheinmetall said.

Subject to regulatory approvals, the joint venture will be called Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land, or RBSL, once fully formed. Regulatory approvals are expected to be completed in the first half of 2019, Rheinmetall said.

1621 - cufflinks would say that, it is all bluster, and highly unlikely that an aerial war will be won in the skies above the US, that is why they have aircraft carriers, although maybe not much use against a hypersonic missile!

Dodgy Chipmunks? Compared with a Tiger Moth they were a joy to fly. For real dodginess, try getting into a spin in a Meteor.

Always wanted to be a pilot myself.
Was in RAF Regiment cadets, flying those dodgy chipmunks but due to poor eyesight that was a far as I went.

My bucket list is to do one of those Spitfire flights across channel and back before I kick the bucket.

Nope Engineer and Project Manager. Was part of the BAE typhoon team setting up a type of industry based Direct Exchange system (known as Industry Exchange and Repair Service now).
Worked with Tornado F3's during the 80's as part of my RAF career before going on to Nimrod(s).

Ah not quite working for the "MOD" that I was expecting...

No biggie.

How did you find the Typhoon? Compared to Tornado?
I presume you never flew them?

These orders are coming in well.......

Boston orders nearly 200 electric-hybrid systems from BAE Systems for new buses

BAE Systems’ electric hybrid propulsion powers Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) buses.

WBecki, my Dad was involved in V force introduction to service in late 50's as a serving RAF Engineer and became a Crew Chief on Vulcans after a stint at Boscomb with TSR.
My first trip to Abbeywood was in the late 80's but more involved with MRA4 from about 94. Typhoon was when I worked for BAE.

"General historic context, which has absolutely nothing to do with BAE!"

If this govt falls then it will have all to do with BAe.
For the Saudi contract is the first thing that will be binned with any Non Tory govt fyi.
Certainly interesting times across the board...
