Merrill Lynch downgraded BAE Systems to “neutral”; from “buy” and cut Rolls-Royce to “underperform” with an 820p target.

A positive cycle for defence spending over the past two years meant BAE re-rated while a sell-off for US peers closed the transatlantic valuation gap, said Merrill. But with earnings upgrades now slowing and organic growth returning to the low teens, BAE seems likely to slip back to the valuation range of between 14 and 16 times earnings, where it traded in the mid-2000s, Merrill said.

Other than the Saudi issue I really dont see why this is taking the hammering it is. Normal business carrying on with new contracts being signed as normal......

BAE Systems was down 2.3% after Merrill Lynch cut the defence contractor to Neutral from Buy late Monday.

"Looks oversold to me....Anything sub 500p looks a decent entry point.

But what do I know.."

Under EU rules we must put this requirement out to competative tender. So dont we classify them as "warships"? I am sure the rest of Europe with shipbuilding capabilities would.

Well I just hope it holds at this level until HL do their reinvestment around the 10th, but I picked up a little chunk at 504ish anyway so I've covered myself. I'm investing here on a 20-30 year timescale though so dips aren't an issue for me.
