“To date, more than 355 F-35s have been delivered and are now operating from 16 bases worldwide. More than 730 pilots and over 6,700 maintainers are trained and the F-35 fleet has surpassed more than 175,000 cumulative flight hours.

The price of an F-35A is now $89.2 million and the enterprise is on track to deliver an $80 million F-35A by 2020 (Lot 14), which is equal to or less than the price of less capable, 4th generation aircraft.”

BAE Systems Chairman Roger Carr, who firmly opposed Brexit before the referendum, said the U.K. defense giant can ride out any challenges as it looks beyond Europe.

At BAE’s annual reception in London Carr described Brexit as “a little local difficulty” when set against a global background of social unrest and international tension.

That hasn’t stopped the U.K. company from selling fighter planes to Qatar, frigates to Australia and amphibious landing craft to the U.S. Marine Corps, he said.

WBecki, yes thats true but this is the BAE thread. Most defence contracts of this nature go out to two or more potential suppliers.

Competing with general Dynamics I see:



General Dynamics and BAE Systems will each build 12 prototypes of an up-to-40-ton armored vehicle.

The U.S. Army will evaluate light tanks built by General Dynamics and BAE Systems as it moves ahead with plans to field some 500 of the armored vehicles.

It is great to see a British warship design finally make waves in open international competition, first time for about half a century - last ones I recall being the Porpoise/Oberon subs and the Leander frigates. although not to be built here, the UK supply chain should benefit.

Shalder. My experience is with aircraft (maintenance and later manufacture) but I can totally agree with you about shipbuilding. How/why on earth did we allow this to happen! No joined up thinking back in the 70's and 80's made worse by successive governments (of all parties).
