My only interest in Brexit is how it will influence my current portfolio. Aviva tickles down on negative "agreement "news but only seeps slowly back. Frustrating.
Many of the comments on potential disposals are interesting but any deals so far have not really buoyed the share price
It's hard to know for certain but given Aviva is s systemically important institution I wonder why conversations...They must have them.. with its Regulator on reorganisation are not leaked. The SEC leaks like a sieve..does the PRA only have one backroom boffin allocated?
Statements from the Board are just bland drivel.

Poland would be a decent size sell, but I have not heard anything suggesting a sale announcement that soon. I still think the Italian GI company should be the easiest sale, although given that there are many possible buyers that could add a bit to any timescale in order to get the best deal.

Interesting to see the article on the Aviva France auction in L'argus de l'assurance yesterday. (hxxps://www.argusdelassurance.com/les-assureurs/compagnies/reprise-d-aviva-france-deux-nouveaux-acquereurs-potentiels-evoques.175189). The two key takes are;

* the suggestion that the data room will close at the end of January and that it sees a decision being made in Q1 (as opposed to the alternative that MACIF will look to do the deal in January). I am inclined to agree. I see no reason for Aviva to take any decisions or make any announcements in January even if one bidder makes its move. The game suggests it will take more time to play bidders off against each other although I would hope for news in February.

* the identification of AG2R La Mondiale as another serious potential bidder. And the more the merrier.

Guys (Woodhawk & GTG). This is spoiling a great thread. I don't want to but will use the moderating facility if you continue to sideswipe this board. Please respect those that really don't want to witness a bar room brawl between the two of you.If you want, I'll set up your own slugfest thread...spud

@Spud, Well said Spud. This has been a great thread lets keep it that way and it will help if everyone keeps their political views to themselves.

Just a very brief comment:- I had read that come 1st January 2021 if no deal/accommodation reached then both the EU and UK revert to WTO rules immediately, under existing laws. So, I truly believe that a deal has to be done PDQ or we will be lost without any possible recourse/re-wind...the EU will suffer, but the UK as many many have said will suffer significantly more. Negotiations are time critical, and with Covid-19 needs requiring huge attention, medically, politically, and financially BJ needs to get a grip and face realities.Personally I think he is the wrong guy to lead us but it is too late to change horses, and he must compromise and not be ashamed to do so. There is I believe a genuine willingness on the EU side to see the UK as a valued neighbour over the coming years along with all the global environmental issues etc., with a vast array of individual talent to contribute in future creative connections, scientific, medical and cultural diversity, which can be shared albeit perhaps semi-detached!! The Youth of the EU countries and the UK are so important that a failure to conclude a mutually agreeable settlement/deal would be unacceptable.

GeckotheGlorious - don't talk to me about freedom, it's blinkered Little Englanders like you that have cost all of us the right to live, work and study in the EU. So take your deluded 'Freedom' fantasies and shove 'em. You've been had. You have control over less than you had before and you don't even realise what you've lost.

Yep, the FT talking its own book again.

It's not called the 'pink paper' just because of the colour of its pages.

The thing I've learned above all others in the last few years is to despise 'journalists'.

Biggest bunch of dissembling activist creeps in the universe.

What is wrong with wanting to be free, to govern ourselves, to determine our own laws we live under??

Why are Remainers all freedom haters?

We seem to be getting regular news as another commenter has stated. I’m optimistic as an offer has to be made by middle of next month (if bid is to continue), if not other interested parties are waiting on the wings.

AB seems to be delivering so far.

Aviva is what is important here and i firmly believe now that some sort of approach must have been made for Aviva for this selling at Pace kitchen sinking .

Does anyone think the same.

Excellent article, thanks! Let's hope that the imbecile Johnson finally realises the dangerously exposed position the UK is in before it's too late. Brexit is already a total economic failure - it has already cost us more than we contributed, as well as massively reducing our rights as Europeans - now we must salvage what we can while there is still something worth saving.
