I made an initial purchase today for long-term ISA. 11% re invested each year for 7 years will cover my investment. The wonder of compounding.

Recession like volatility that's what I'm seeing with allot of stocks.

There's some serious money to be made in the aftermath.

I'm already putting together a Corona virus portfolio.

When to start buying though.....

Yes Cassini, like all investors I am at the ready for the bounce as is every man and his dog. If the world population isn't ending, then I believe it will go up as quick as it went down and I'll certainly miss the bottom as I always do because of fear.

It's a bear market yes, however it's also a crash, which for UK markets
are very rare indeed.

Technically with the >20% drop it's a bear market, but I've never seen one caused by a plague* before and I think they may have to invent a new word for this sort of scenario ;0)

*OK, and an oil price war.

Nick R,

Same dilemma. I bought at 360p, so more incentive to get my avergae price down than you! Long term support is around the 260p level as far as I can see, apart from the 2009 financial crisis when it went below 200p! I don't see this crisis as being the same though - most banks and financial institutions back then were technically insolvent IIRC and didn't know if they would even be operating the next week.

This collapse has been so rapid I feel the recovery (up to a point) must take the same form. The difficulty is knowing where the bottom will be, so as not to miss the rip-your-face-off rebound, as you say. If there is one ;0)

Bought around 325p, now struggling to want to buy more at 276p because I worry it may go lower. One thing for sure is if the market decides the economy isn't going to collapse in it's entirety, then prices will rebound immediately and perhaps in a day or two.

Having said that perhaps we should firstly hope we don't get affected ourselves with Corona, and worry about share losses secondly.

In truth world governments are handling this in a most ridiculous way testing people months after the fact is to late the virus is now part of our lives and shutting everything down just won’t help and is not viable long term you could stem the virus only to have it return months later twice as bad. It could become as seasonal as the flu who knows. The point is this isn’t disease X far from it and even if it turned into it at some point nothing government is doing would change a thing. Take precautions with the elderly and those with underlying health issues is the best you can do.
