The transfer of power from the west to the east is the only thing that matters. Short term gov. vs long term gov.

All it takes now is another of twt's inane posts to end another perfect week..(apologies for the mistype, the 'r' and the 'w' are very close on this keyboard).

His posts would have more conviction if he actually posted his dealings... I'm not convinced he's in the market - or has he actualy got the balls to have skin in the game? 😂

Oh I am certainly not complaining about the share price (prices).
I didn't get excited on the way up , not too excited on the way down.

But since we are supposed to be reading accounts to get to know a company ....

Its not just accounts that are B/S , worse still are those AIM companies that do "interviews" for these online media / analysts...

Unfulfilled half promises , never challenged jam always just over the horizon and plenty of gamblers prepared to lose.....

You are sitting pretty having been very fortunate to sell at the top, but think about the poor souls who bought your shares. I am not one having first bought in over 20 years ago when AHT was on its knees and needed 2 rights issues to keep it afloat but It's not amusing to buy high and watch your capital disappear as you hope that "something will turn up" .

C'mon guys, this is supposed to be a thread dedicated to all things Ashtead, not a gathering place for manic depressives to air their dissatisfaction with accounting practices, lost opportunities and the world at large.

OK I am prepared to make allowances for fenners, after all he has been beating the same drum for what seems an eternity, and I doubt he can be dissuaded now..

For the rest of us, shares go up, and shares go down, if you want to blame someone I would look closer to home... after all some of us have done pretty well from Ashtead, if you haven't then ask yourselves, who's to blame? Is it a lack of focus or poor judgement?

Obviously no offence intended 😂🤣

And the Financial reporting standards continue to add layer upon layer of useless info to better inform the shareholders....

Look at the info many companies publish about directors and their packages etc... 40 pages not uncommon.

Its all about burying any bad news behind a Tsunami of garbage.

Once watched a court based drama where they said , best way of making sure the defence does not see something to their advantage.... bury it under a mountain of info....

Good day fenners

I think you expect too much from company reports and accounts. You want clarity, honesty and an absence of avoiding that which is negative. You can't expect Directors to be open and fully honest any more than you would expect turkeys to vote for Christmas.

Directors are not there for the common good they are there to earn a living and to operate the company. To keep their posts they are not going to report that operations are going badly etc. Whilst they will avoid out and out lies they will minimise the bad and maximise the good.

From what I have observed the authorities will allow considerable leeway in company reporting and creative accounting.

Cynical I may be but only because of experience.

I mentioned yesterday about disliking other company's presentation etc more than say the "exceptionals" with AHT.

I tried to read Halfords results this morning.

I had a quick flick through early on.

Basically it was everything is fantastic we have made great progress blah blah

Then some numbers presented with the comparison 2022 vs 2020 then 2022 vs 2021
together with "adjusted everything"

When you looked the results comparison vs 2020 was +ve
But it was actually worse vs 2021

Adjusted underlying EPS +12% vs 2020 ! Yea go Halfords, thats what they want you to read

Adjusted underlying EPS -15% vs last year, business has gone backwards......

I did not have time to read further but compared to the fanfare of everything's going just fine , it left me feeling cold and thinking this is just BS window dressing presentation.

I look now and see their share price is down 18.8% this morning and I ask , who do they think they are fooling with this BS ?

Hi disc0,

Thanks for your supportive comments..

Not unexpectedly my recent pca (pound cost averaging) purchases are just a little underwater, it is difficult to find the optimum entry point, but I am confident good will out..

I am looking to make further small purchases as part of the plan in the future, but wary of false hope, I believe we are not yet out of the woods yet ...

My own main difference from other investors from my viewpoint is that as a long term holder, I am prepared to sit out any further flucuations with confidence in the future..... fingers crossed

Keep posting, your views are important....㈴2; NAI

fenners re 60927 contd:

'the £bn spent on buybacks is not regarding the one year' ?

This post without qualification was somewhat disingenuous to say the least, and the retro-fitted logic fails to impress me I'm afraid.

However I think that it is time to move on, I do hope you can patch things up with disc0, I and others value both your contributions 😊

hi fenners,

Re post 60927:

Just to set the record straight re your earlier post re AHT dividend growth, this is a fairer picture, and I believe the 2020/21 figures relate to the Covid Panic financial prudence:

04/2022 12.50¢ 67.50¢ - 80.00¢ 37.93%
04/2021 7.15p 35.00p - 42.15p 3.69%
04/2020 7.15p 33.50p - 40.65p 1.62%
04/2019 6.50p 33.50p - 40.00p 21.21%
04/2018 5.50p 27.50p - 33.00p 20.00%
04/2017 4.75p 22.75p - 27.50p 22.22%
04/2016 4.00p 18.50p - 22.50p 47.54%
04/2015 3.00p 12.25p - 15.25p 32.61%
