Interesting article Wan but it seems to suggest we have a long way to go with commodity prices going up..
'This has been a bit of futuristic prognosticating about things that might impact the current down slope of commodity demand. If history is a judge we have a long way to go before a new cycle begins. '
I dont know much about commodities outside oil to be honest and from where I am all the companies in the industry are moving out to renewables or down sizing I have never seen this and I have been through a few downturns in my life. I have never seen oil companies start to seriously change their structure to move towards other energy sources. They are also selling off assets to the minnows, like JSE, to pick clean but they are doing that as they dont see the investment returns. Little companies are more flexible and can live on lower margins so again that shows where they think oil is going. I believe oil is on the turn, it will take a long time before we start seeing the end but just like the end of bricks and mortar that was predicted in the dotcom boom only now do we see the actual end point of that on the horizon.
I am actually actively looking at ways to leave O&G and so are many of my experienced friends, thing is there are not many young ones below us to take our places such has been the poor pickings over the last few years that companies have not trained up replacements so the future is cheap labour in foreign lands which is not good for the industry safety profile either. From the inside I see an industry that has realized the end will be coming and are changing to accommodate.

Good article from oilprice.com Wan, thanks for posting it. It's all opinion at the end of the day, we've know for years that cigarettes are bad for you but it didn't stop the likes of Bat's share price climbing for years with a good solid dividend to boot. I see oil the same way really, for every green thinking European there is an African or an Asian that doesn't give a stuff. China, India and Africa as a whole will keep on driving the oil cycle at least in the short and medium term. I have cut back a lot and only hold JSE, TPX, PTAL and SQZ now and i have added some greens in EQT and GRID.

Cinoib, You say ' I do not know what possessed AAZ to join them'. ' All mouth and no trousers '. Surely, when looking to buy into an investment that is precisely what is looking for. AAZ will do their due diligence. Will not throw their Bank balance away. A much more interesting question is whether there is more money to be made out of AAZ or Conroy Gold shares.

Klosters, if you had been in conroy from the early days you would know what I am talking about and why the great doubt. The phrase all mouth and no trousers comes to mind also, all promise and no delivery. Ask yourself why it has taken them 20 years to bet to where they are then you won't be asking me ?s.
Gold flying again all goldies up, o sorry all but one.

RNS just announced regarding the resignation of Richard Round- a thoroughly good man who I spoke to at a few AGM's. I hope his personal reasons aren't too serious and thank him for his good work at AAZ.

The idea is to build a mining corporation of substance from carefully managed cashflow whilst giving shareholders a decent divi. Giving away cash is not a good idea when you are considering starting a new mine in another country. So far AAZ have done an exceptionally good job, and a very honest job too, in an industry still largely populated by liars stood next to a hole in the ground.

I wonder if they've considered giving us a special dividend given how much free cash flow they have.

Took some SVL back in Oz towards close, they are my Silver explorer punt; had one spike, settled back a bit. Tempted to go in for CHN after earlier gains, also fell back a bit but resisted for now. Both big winners earlier this year when metals got a hard on.

Regards O&G I very recently have been in a presentation from management of a large contractor and they are not thinking demand is going to rise until later next year and even then they report oil companies all moving to green options so nobody has much confidence in the oil price going forward. In the contracting industry wages (and contract rates) are being cut and offices closed to realign the industry for the future they are not doing this as a short term measure, the lower rates is normal the lower staff salaries are not and closing offices is not something I have never seen before in a turn down usually offices only de-manned to a very low level ready for the upturn.
Not good.

ODR - I read somewhere that a Biden presidency could cause silver could to double as he has 'promised' to sign up to the Paris climate accord and for the US to lead the world going forward which would require a large amount of physical.
Having said that if Trump stays in power then all the monetary largesse will also increase gold/silver. Hopefully we are onto a winner either way
