No good for shares this week but in the long run East Coast franchise is going to be a big big problem, after it has been run successfully for 5 years and returned so much to the tax payer

DATED JAN 13

Three companies in final fight for Kings Cross to Edinburgh route

The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced the shortlist for the East Coast franchise which is due to exit the PUBLIC SECTOR in 12 months’ time. The franchise has been operated by the DfT’s wholly owned subsidiary East Coast Trains for the last five years after the previous two franchisees both failed

I don't see what not getting a very difficult franchise (that was given up in the middle of it's term) can cause a 10% drop in SP

FirstGroup posts improved results

Wednesday 5 November 2014

FirstGroup posted a jump in underlying half-year profits today after a rise in the number of people using its trains and buses kept its turnaround plan on track.

The Aberdeen-based group, which employs 117,000 people and has operations in the UK and North America, said pre-tax profits for the six months to the end of September leapt 69.9% on a year earlier to £33.3 million.

Like-for-like passenger volumes in its UK bus division increased by 2.1% following efforts to stimulate volume growth through selected fare re-basing and improved quality of service

Any reason for FGP being up nearly 2% on a bad market day?

Its a shame some of you minjsniffers will still be spouting bargain when it hits 75p, 55p and 37p...but i will be spouting it with you at 7p

Imho, the debt is far too much for these boys to handle..not a clue how to make a profit..and the only way to pay a due debt is "rights issue"!!

I remain with a shaggers stance on fgp, clients have been informed
Sensible comments appreciated

Imoa i dont see FGT getting the East coast franchise i see that going to virgin ect,so greatwestern maybe it,Fgt is a spent force in the railfranchise side of things too many complaints of overcrowding too high fares for too long!for too long their answer to overcrowding has been to price the not so well off,off the limited seats.

Scotrail made £14.2 million in the year ending March 31 2013. Ref

Is that operating profit?

bit thick

I suppose the non Scotrail continuation is the Scots peek on not getting independence.

Better to lose the franchise than pay too much for it

Selftrade (my on line stock broker, and all others) allow a holder to sell all, or some of their holdings at a set price above the price today. (Limit Sell)

In my case, if FGP gets to 148.7p all my holding will be sold.

I lose out if the share price shoots up past 148.7

I gain if there is a spike up and 148.7p is reached and the share price then goes down

It saves me having to watch the shares all the time

I will only actually sell if FGP ever reaches 148.7p
