I know. Just thought I would mention it.

re Renko: thats why i would like a renko chart... I like the idea of no time value. Ive seen many examples of Renko but never used one.

i was talking of the concept of a chart not being tied directly to time, not the implementation of the PNF chart interface!

eg look at for an explaination.

just had a look at pfn charts....a bit annoying it will only go back as far as the period selected intrada 5 min...will only show this morning onwards. i.e you can drag it forward any further.

yeah, you can't have a renko chart superimposed on a regular chart without distorting it horribly though!

I know it sounds strange but just dont like the look of a PNF chart :-)

zigzag does depend on the earliest value in the charts rather than the latest, it extrapolates forward, not backward. it takes some tweaking with the tolerance percentage to get the right sort of view. i find it good for working out "patterns of noise", ie the sort of patterns that then become more solid price movements against patterns that peter out and are more noise than signal.

renko charts are time-independant, ie they ignore the passage of time, as are PNF - in fact they are very similar (and again similar to kagi, three line break and so on) just drawn differently. i suggest you check out PNF charts as they will do most of what you want from Renko, though i think it would be cool for us to add Renko, Kagi and maybe more types of these charts to the PNF engine!

Zig Zag looks silly to me(no offence )as it is. It depends how much of the chart you have loaded as to what line it draws.!!

A renko chart would filter out data and then you would be able to actually put indicators based on the renko filtered chart.

aren't different coloured up/down bars candlesticks? hehe ;)

yes and know..It means you can shrink a chart and you can get an idea of where its closing. Will post a chart of one of it can find it.

Never used PNF, so cant really comment .Renko would be good

Thanks

hi Hooya,

i'm back :)
taking all your thoughts on board, and i'm still working on the aggregating outside market hours data, had to rewrite a bunch of it...

aren't different coloured up/down bars candlesticks? hehe ;)

for renko charts.. interesting. i'd be interested in what you had to say about using PNF charts in the same manner, or have a play with the ZigZag study, as it does much the same sort of analysis. i'd not have a problem with coding a Renko chart study though.

as for the 60 minute candle chart bug... well, we're changing a whole ton of stuff that affects data aggregation right now, so with any luck it might be fixed as an aside of that, could you check the beta site to see if it works for you on there? if not, i'll still make sure we get on it :>

David/James..whats new in the wonderful world of chart developement?

Anythoughts on

1) Dot charts
2) 2 min charts?
3) Different coulored bars for up and down bars on the bar charts?
4) How about a Renko chart...they would put ADVFN charts up there with the best imo?
5)Changing colours on upward/downward sloping parts of an indicator as previously mentioned.

And Most importantly

WHEN IS THE 60 MIN CANDLE CHART GOING TO BE AVAILIABLE OUT OF HOURS :-)
?????????????

Just doen a chart as Im not the best at explaining myself with words but you know what I meant. Thanks for looking into it. A retracement which ever way around you think it should be will always be different if its retracing an up move or a down move. So if you think a retracement in a downmove should start at 0% thus o% is below 100%.So going by that a retracement to an up move should again start at 0% but that will mean the 100% will have to below.

Thanks James

Nice pic though :-)

That's what I had thought as well. I shall see what people think and maybe change it for when the beta stuff goes live.

but it depends if you are retracing up or down whether you need the 0% is at the bottom or top? plus that also give people the choice as some like to say 61.8% retracemt of low to high and some 38.2% from high to low?
hooya

Originally you could have it go either way - 0 at top or bottom - but I was told that was wrong and changed it... Will change it so that the numbers are on the right though.

that channel drawing too is still annoying. I have to shrink my chart just so I can exent the line enough to mae a worth while channel.line has to be over two days long to make a 1 day channel with a top and bottom line

edit: my mistake my top line was stuck It moves now :-)
