Doesn’t it have to be rubber stamped by the shareholders first? I haven’t looked into this specifically but I know it’s been a requirement with other stocks I’ve held. Never really been a fan of buybacks though, I’d rather a special dividend instead.

Had expected the share buy back to start kicking in now we are ex div - anyone with any thoughts on this - it would make sense for them to spread it over a longish time period with regular purchases of shares in sensible volumes.

Good article from a div / income perspective. Aviva is a cash cow, and has been since Wilson took the helm

Try this. It's a PI blog. Looks like he's after a high yield portfolio.

I think I saw somewhere that the number of prefs sold in the 2 weeks between 8 March and the 23 March announcement was something like 10 million. Total value lost by vendors would therefore be around £3m-£4m. Almost a rounding difference for a company making £3bn. The smart move would have been to get ahead of the game and immediately announce a compensation plan. As it is the reputational damage continues and will probably get worse as the complaints just seem to be mounting. Plenty of letters going into the FCA and Treasury Committee from what I have seen on other bulletin boards. Seems there was a pref share cancellation idea that was being touted around the City by an investment bank, a bit like the sort of dodgy tax planning that used to be fashionable. Not sure if this is linked with what Aviva did - but people are asking the question. Management are fast losing control of the narrative.

Mmmmmmmmm, always a good idea to 'sue' the company you have 'invested' in. Then watch your share value sink due to the disruption!

It would be ironic(and quite reasonable IMHO) if Aviva ended up having to compensate all the holders that directly lost out through their outrageous actions. It would also be nice to see Slaughter and May sent packing with a flea in their ear, though that might be too much to ask....

So who here is pressuring the directors to refund those holders that panicked, sold and lost money? This was a case of taking value from a minority group of shareholders and passing to the majority shareholders.

I think it shows a level of arrogance on the part of the board. Assuming everyone would just roll over and accept it. To admit the mistake so quickly proves it was flawed from the start. Very poor.
