15/9/2004 07:55 | Why are some people buying this at 158??? | seva
15/9/2004 07:54 | SEVA: If you look at the trades some people were still buying parcels of as much as a million shares up to the closing bell - ouch! However a strong line of selling started around 4.30 pm . As usual, someone somewhere knew something! I'm really sorry to hear that the market makers lost money on this. Gosh how awful for them. | sandbank
15/9/2004 07:49 | I WAS GOING TO GO LONG ON THIS YESTERDAY-GLAD I DID NOT. MARKET MAKERS LOST A LOT OF MONEY ON THIS. | seva
15/9/2004 07:25 | Statement re Abbey National PLC ('Abbey') Further to the announcement made on 2nd August in respect of a potential combination with Abbey, HBOS plc ('HBOS') has now concluded its analysis. Notwithstanding the very substantial opportunity to create synergies, and a strong competition case with which to engage the regulators, HBOS has decided not to proceed with an offer for Abbey. HBOS believes that the shareholder value inherent in its existing prospects is superior to that likely to be achieved through this combination. | sandbank
14/9/2004 13:23 | Speculation has been holding that HBOS (HBOSHBOS) plans this week to launch a 10.5 billion pound hostile bid for rival U.K. bank Abbey National (ANLANL) this week. Abbey has agreed a 8.7 billion pound deal with Spain's Banco Santander (STD). Yet some large Abbey investors are growing impatient. Murdo Murchison, the vice president of Franklin Templeton told The Times (of London) that HBOS should make its case soon. "The sooner the phoney war is over, the better," he said. HBOS "have had enough time to think about it." Separately, the Times reported that mortgage lender Northern Rock (NRKNRK) has hired Citigroup as an advisor. HBOS shares were down 0.2 percent; Abbey shares rose 0.3 percent; and, Northern Rock was little changed. | a77
14/9/2004 10:02 | Im in long - december 622p - can see this going or a run for the rest of the week - 10p drop yesterday seemed mad - although i am getting a bit twitchy about HBOS not bidding - in slight profit at the moment but a nice bid from HBOS at 680p would be nice | timmyman
13/9/2004 15:19 | Yes it's HBOS to bid, never thought Lloyds would. | dm1

12/9/2004 16:47 | I think THIS will be THE WEEK !!!!! Hang-on in there !!! | wendsworth
10/9/2004 19:40 | On the iii website someone pasted a report from Dow Jones Newswires from last night, referring to HBOS making significant progress in assembling its bid according to those close to the situation, etc.... Perhaps further clues (or is that 'leaks'-?) in weekend press. | impecunious
10/9/2004 16:54 | Do you think somethings about to happen? 19 million buys vs. 5 million sells. | wtacraig3
09/9/2004 07:20 | Banco Santander bid now worth 591p nicely underpins the shareprice. HBOS bid expected to be in the 650p+ level. HBOS never comments on timing of board meetings. DM1 | dm1
08/9/2004 22:44 | HBOS: starting to look as though they are all talk, no action, perhaps ? Anyone know when their [rumoured] board meeting is due to be held? | impecunious
07/9/2004 17:40 | broadwood : Tend to agree . BB is quiet this week ! | wendsworth
06/9/2004 08:58 | This is the crunch week as far as HBOS is concerned. Not sure which way it will go but apparently the Board meeting was postponed last week as they were still not fully prepared. I'd say 60:40 on an HBOS bid- then the fun really starts. | broadwood
04/9/2004 13:07 | Another 'cracking week' for all holders UP 21 PENCE . Wonder what next week will bring ? | wendsworth

02/9/2004 07:54 | Santander have said, if another bidder comes in, then they will increase their bid. HBOS would only find out after they bid, if Commission allowing takeover by them. Seen as 80% successful. DM1 | dm1
01/9/2004 17:58 | HSBC may bid too. I am holding :-) | markth
01/9/2004 17:46 | Bluemango, See DM1's post 726 above. It states that Deutsche Bank put the odds as 75% on HBOS bidding and 80% of HBOS success and that they could afford to pay up to 715p. Regards, Maddox | maddox |
