PP also said something like this in reply to an analyst enquiring about flow rates/reservoir characteristics etc etc "We spent an awful lot of money and human capital acquiring the data we now have on Namibia so why should we give that information away for free!"

He also put Barclays Paul Chang firmly back in his box for asking a Q that had already been answered and then having the temerity to ask a 3rd Q rather than respecting the two Q convention :)

Not a huge amount of new detail and the hosting company played that tired but relaxing Texan music.

Intending to FID initial FPSO by end of 2025. 1st development and we'll see others to follow. 2 or 3 from Total to start with incl 1st. With maybe 6 or 7 FPSO's in the basin including other operators initially. Has potential to be another Guyana. Exploration still at very early stages. Total have a similar prospect to Mopane that will be drilled. PP did comment that in 25yrs of expln he's never known just 2 wells to prove up 10bn bbls (OOIP) but let's see! (in other words there's a lot more work to do on Mopane in his opnion)

First FPSO will be 150 to 180 Kbopd. Good news from AOI's perspective as completely carried by Total to first oil. It's a decent sized vessel. Ultimate scale of FPSO limited by topsides and need to re-inject (not flare) associated gas as GOR relatively high.

Maybe will drill S. Afr in 2025.

Namibia will be next frontier for industry to establish a competitive contractor base to deliver competitive projects. Very happy/optimistic that Namibia will fall into Total's strict FID metrics CAPEX $/bbl etc etc.

Conclusion: It's not a question of if? or even when? It is going to happen!

Cash the webcast is in 38 mins. Don't be surprised if Patrick P keeps everyone guessing for many months yet. But anything he says on any matter oil and gas is usually worth listening to even if nothing to do with Namibia! Would imagine, in the light of Mopane that there will be one or two Q's on Venus etc. And the music is typically very uplifting in a French kind of way ;-)

Total usually have an instant replay available if you miss the live event.

Thx for the updates cash. My Sintana's are doing very well but not exactly a huge chunk of my E&P's. If only Africa Oil were performing as well! Dr Mello is the fast talking, ejected former CEO of what was HRT Petroleum and has always been a believer in Walvis/Luderitz basins informed by his very good understanding of Campos Brazil. HRT drilled 2 or 3 wells (in Walvis, I think?) but wells failed, although proved concept of a working petroleum system. I don't recall Mello talking much about Orange Basin, as conventional wisdom in the day, was that anything south of Walvis Arch was, relatively speaking versus north of, unprospective. How times change!

Over to Patrick P (Total Energies). 1Q Results merely say "The company positively appraised the Venus discovery in Namibia and the Cronos in Cyprus".

Cronos gets a further mention whereas Venus does not!
"Positive appraisal of the Cronos gas discovery in block 6, in Cyprus"

This is kind of normal Patrick P stuff. He likes to underplay things before ultimately giving out the good news. And it's fun keeping everyone else guessing.

Sintana - update. To acquire upto 67% of Giraffe Energy, holder of a 33% interest in PEL79, Orange basin offshore Namibia. Giving Sintana 22% indirect interest in PEL79, which has Kudu gasfield and Rhino Resources PEL85 immediately to its West.Sintana piling up more key Orange basin blocks.Cash

xxnjr,Agree - GALP are in Dreamland. They can pick and choose and there are vague reports already of undisclosed offers.I can't wait, as a significant Sintana holding dominates a section of my portfolio, we will see immediate read across. In fact it's happening right now. Sintana Energy storming head today. Up almost 25% at close tonight. The writing is on the wall - this is Dreamland for oil exploration investors.Cash

xxnjr,Yes, Rhino privately owned. Cannot find anyway to play PEL85 - there seems to be large Cretaceous prospect mapped not too far south of Mopane oilfield near the license boundary. I expect Rhino to go for this first.Namibia is on fire!Cash

xxnjr,They have truly hit the jackpot in PEL83.A rare GIANT oil discovery, before any of the other prospects on the block are drilled. Before any of the other PELs are drilled.I've seen some Canadian resource investors talk 20billion OIP on PEL83 on this block based on what is known.Word is GALP are now planning a 10 well campaign for PEL83. They are going all out. I expect a partner announcement during the summer - no doubt majors will be all over them. What a rare position for a minnow oil company to be in. Reminds me of the days of Edinburgh oil and gas - when Buzzard oilfield in the North Sea. Also GKP, as Shaikhan was discovered. What Sintana have is greater - access to the epicentre of a huge new basin in its honeymoon phase, where all the major discoveries are made. Not selling a single share. This is only just getting started - AOI indicating Chevron have a rig and Woodside will probably announce soon aswell.Cash

Great! So the 2 to 3 ooip was conservative! well done GALP. 14K on a DST is not bad but that was the max limit of the testing facilities. One wonders what an unconstrained well result could be. One of the interesting characteristics, I feel (non expert) is the "very low oil viscosity" which also seems to be the saving grace on Venus given some relatively low poro or perm numbers present there. Could also be good news for Mangetti potential.

Phenomenal results just released by GALP - they got a monster oilfield;Galp (80%, operator), together with its partners NAMCOR and Custos (10% each), has successfully completed?the first phase of the?Mopane exploration campaign with the conclusion of the Mopane-1X Well Testing operations. The Mopane-1X well discovered, in January, significant oil columns containing light oil in high-quality reservoir sands at two different levels: AVO-1 and AVO-2.?The rig then moved to the Mopane-2X well location, where in March significant light oil columns were discovered in high-quality reservoir sands across exploration and appraisal targets: AVO-3, AVO-1 and a deeper target. In particular, the Mopane-2X well found AVO-1 to be in the same pressure regime as in the Mopane-1X discovery well, around  8 km to the east, confirming its lateral extension. The reservoirs log measures confirm good porosities, high pressures and high permeabilities in large hydrocarbon columns. Fluid samples present very low oil viscosity and contain minimum CO2 and no H2S concentrations. The flows achieved during the well test have reached the maximum allowed limits of 14 kboepd, potentially positioning Mopane as an important commercial discovery. In the Mopane complex alone, and before drilling additional exploration and appraisal wells, hydrocarbon in-place estimates are 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent, or higher. All acquired data from the current Mopane drilling campaign will be analysed and integrated into an updated reservoir model. The model will serve as the basis to refine Galp´s near-term drilling plan to further explore, appraise and develop the wider Mopane complex.--------------------------------------------------------->>Custos is Sintana's local vehicle.Cash

Tucker was on about Mangetti the other day, looking like it's a bit of a monster too, they're going to drill another well on it this year to appraise further north

Shell has racked up yet another hydrocarbon discovery offshore Namibia, although it is too early to say if it is commercial.

The Enigma-1X probe is being drilled in the supermajor’s prolific Petroleum Exploration Licence 39 by Northern Ocean’s semi-submersible drilling rig Deepsea Bollsta, which is being managed by Odfjell Drilling.

A Shell spokesperson told Upstream: “As part of our multi-well campaign in Namibia, Shell and its joint venture partners have safely and successfully concluded drilling our sixth exploration well, Enigma-1X, in PEL 39.

Interesting comments by Robert Bose, CEO of Sintana Energy, in today's RNS release by CEG. Charlestown energy (which he also heads) have taken a strategic position in Challenger energy for their positions in Paraguay (OFF-1 with Chevron, OFF-3 sole risk).Drill Stem testing continues at Mopane-1X site - BUT he has referred to PEL83 with this wording 'multibillion barrel light oil discoveries'. Mopane oilfield was discovered and appraised confirming 3 reserviors. It's big, really big. Minimum some are expecting is 2-3billion OIP. Possibly 600-800million recoverable to begin with.Cash
