UPSTREAM: TotalEnergies is set to launch its huge Venus development offshore Namibia later this year, according to a top executive at the supermajor, who cites the discovery's "impressive" reservoir characteristics.

Kevin McLachlan, TotalEnergies' head of exploration, at last week’s BEOS event — organised by AAPG and GESGB — revealed intriguing details about Venus to a rapt audience, focusing on the “impressive221; sub-surface findings to date from the discovery well and two completed drill stem tests, with another two DSTs under way.

xxnjr,Thanks. I agree, think it bodes very well for the remainder of the block and surrounding blocks in the 'inner high'. Cash

Hello Cash; you've found our secret corner! Hadn't seen that Rhino graphic on Mopane. Thx. You'd imagine then (reservoir quality permitting) that there would be more oil updip of current 2 wells :) Also interesting (i think, from memory) that Mopane (along with Kudu) might be the inner side of the outer high (Shell/Total finds have been outside of outer).

I agree, everyone being cautious. With regards GALP and Sintana, I think they want to declare commerciality before they start talking about potential scale. All we know thus far, the Mopane structure is 'JV-estimated' 10billion bbls OIP. They've now got the 8km lateral extension of the field. They are heading towards commercial declaration, just awaiting the DST outcome now.For those who want to get a scale of what Mopane could become, go to the website of Neighbours Rhino Resources, who have overlapping seismic covering one end of the Mopane structure close to their boundary. They've actually imaged, on their website, the full Mopane prospect. Suffice to say, a picture speaks a thousand words. It's big, really big. There is more prospectivity on that block aswell. I will say GALP maybe playing cards close to their chest, as they are looking to bring in a major, what's for sure is GALP/Sintana and partners have hit the jackpot here. There is alot more to come from Namibia, this story is just getting started.Tonight - PCL present on the biggest target of them all, the Saturn Superfan. Sintana also have an interest in that.Lots to look forward to.Cash

That it doesn't really make sense. Total downplayed Mangetti, Shell are not normally cautious but everyone seems to be talking about waiting until more is known about the geology, even Sintana have been positive but cautious in public statements. Tucker at AOC doesn't seem the PR type but he's almost been the most positive out of anybody.
Total are paying big to get Venus going and for 3B/4B and AOC must know some figures before they pay that much for the extra interest in Impact. I guess it's just a case of follow the money but the silence is odd and I don't understand why NAMCOR isn't breaking it.

Just trying to work out why Total and Shell are downplaying everything so much. Even Galp and their partners area being really cautious in their statements.

"AOC has made an offer to acquire from minority shareholders in Impact Oil and Gas Limited ("Impact") up to 8.0% of the issued shares in Impact. The Offer is made at a price of USD 0.728 per Impact share, for a consideration of up to approximately USD 64 million, which implies a valuation of USD 805 million for 100% of the issued share capital of Impact. Africa Oil currently holds a 31.1% shareholding in Impact."

It's very interesting how both Shell and Total have been very cautious about reservoirs, there was a very interesting article about potential permeability issues.

159 days is a silly amount of time, there must be something particular.

It was the Senior Notes Offer with some kind of linked equity component.

Meanwhile GALP seems to have a success. 8km lateral extension confirmed. Plus 1, 2 even(?), deeper finds. Deepest could be in the Albian? which would also be positive.

Total's rig still on Mangetti (159 days and counting) Must be loads of oil down there. good to know Total paying the bills. Sit tight.

Chariot? No idea. They do seem to pay themselves a lot which is a cash drain.

Enigma is probably that medium to largish prospect to Sth of Jonker and to E of Damara as seen on some charts.

Enigma, oooh, that's a nice name.

Off topic, new note on Kosmos from Jefferies target of 610p.

At what point does Chariot stop falling?
