Australian Government Grants Seeing Machines AU$2.25M for
collaborative research project of driver monitoring in the heavy
vehicle industry
27 June 2016
Seeing Machines Limited, (AIM: SEE), the vehicle operator
monitoring technology company, is pleased to announce that it has
been awarded an Australian Government Cooperative Research Centre
Project ("CRC-P") Grant for AU$2.25M over three years. The grant is
toward a collaborative project with Monash University and Ron
Finemore Transport Services ("Ron Finemore"), one of Seeing
Machines' Guardian Solution(TM) customers. Seeing Machines were one
of ten other companies selected from over 100 applications.
The project builds upon Seeing Machines' Guardian technology
platform that actively monitors for and alerts drivers to fatigue
and distraction. Titled, "The Future integrated driver monitoring
solution for heavy vehicles", the project aims to deliver the
next-generation of fatigue prevention and driver monitoring
technology.
The CRC-P will use new data analysis methods to understand the
behavioural risks in ways that were not previously possible. This
brings together 'big data' analytics, simulation and computer
vision expertise across Seeing Machines and Monash University to
develop a next-generation driver monitoring device that integrates
road data and driver data in real-time. Ron Finemore will receive
data that supports its proactive safety management and driver
wellbeing, which in turn will result in fewer crashes, fewer safety
critical events, and improved productivity.
Professor Mike Lenné, Seeing Machines' Chief Scientific Officer,
Human Factors commented: "Combining the technology leadership of
Seeing Machines, with the research excellence of Monash University,
and the industry knowledge from Ron Finemore Transport, this is a
unique opportunity to build the next market-leading driver
monitoring technology. This is a valuable opportunity to drive
product design to enhance safety and the driver experience.
Furthermore, it is incredibly rewarding to see the Australian
Government recognise the innovation of this proposal and the impact
it will have on the heavy vehicle industry and the safety of all
road users."
