I would certainly agree that VRS is proving a fantastic learning experience for anyone who cares to pay attention.

LOI then framework agreement - heads of terms must be next.

The JV approach is probably the best chance of protecting IP in China as the local partnership is financially interested in maintaining a competitive advantage too.

The process with China is slow but compared to other recent trade negotiations and deals seems to be progressing comparatively quickly!

There isn’t another way to deal with China I suspect so patience grasshoppers!

Good update imo.

If this RNS is the result of all that Twitter nudge nudge wink wink and ramping I get the feeling there's going to be a lot of disappointed holders today.

They have only really said they are still talking and have significantly softened their stance in protecting the IP.

protecting the ip

"I am delighted by the support we are receiving from the Chinese Government at all levels, together with the UK Department for International Trade and I look forward to making further announcements as our relationships in China progress and we enter into further agreements."

Pandar - of course theChinese will steal the IP sooner or later. All the more reason IMV to do the best deal they can NOW, then use China as leverage with the US, Korea etc. And if/when the Chinese do steal the IP, that stops them getting any more goodies coming out of the research labs. Should keep them honest for a few years, at least...

By working with a big city in Shandong as a joint venture the IP WILL be protected you just need to think about it instead of shooting from the hip.

Dave,I think it is exactly what most people were expecting. If it was not what you were expecting, you need to question your expectations. After all, VRS doesn't appear to do contracts and payments, it is all non-binding agreements, collaborations, centres of excellence. GLA.

Framework agreements are key in building large and significant operations, in particular where multiple contracts will need to be produced along the way.

The framework agreement provides a basis for those contracts to be created with minimal fuss and legal holdups.

The important thing as has been said many times before is that Vrs are not a one-trick pony. I'm sure the Chinese are very alert to the fact that if they immediately try to steal the ip of Graphene making from Vrs then not only will it make them look like the bandits everyone accuses them of being but the pipeline of vrs's other 2d materials will be shut off from them.

As only one consideration, people forget the cultural differences with operating in China and why it has been so difficult for many to establish/penetrate the Chinese market.

We are the envy of the industry as what is becoming very apparent is the fact that VRS will not only penetrate the market but China as a whole.

VRS are going to penetrate the biggest manufacturing country globally with not one but multiple ventures.

Funnily enough I had three filtered posters all post consecutively following this announcement, I haven’t read their posts but I am pretty certain they will be negative and probably worried that they are caught on the short side of the market.

I think international expansion plans are about to snowball. Watch this space.

These Chinese can be a bit tricky, but having dealt with and still dealing with Chinese companies the progress is pretty quick. Slow by UK standards.

30 ish in negotiation, The latest agreement will probably put a rocket under the Jinan team. It looks as though we are playing one off against the others and when the first deal is done it will set a precedent for the others. So the first deal is very important to get right. Personally I agree with Neill in taking time to land one big fish, the others will have to follow.

Everyone says that the Chinese will steal your IP if you take your product to their market. I somehow suspect that graphene technology is so significant that, in time, the most protected IPs will be compromised as different companies muscle in around the world. The clever thing is to steal a march on your competitors, and that is what VRS is doing. It seems to me that the key to success in China is to get a deal which leaves you counting the money even if at some point your IP is compromised. Now that would take an ingenious deal, and I think we have the best team to deliver it. I'm happy.

"We are making significant progress in developing our relationships in China, both with government bodies and industry. Our discussions in Jinan regarding establishing the "China-UK Jinan Graphene Industrial Park" continue to make good progress and I am pleased that we have signed another agreement in Shandong Province to progress our Chinese plans.

As others recently pointed out these things do take time, frustrating as it is on occasions. Good news is nothing seems to be going backward, just not forward enough to meet investor optimism

Yes @pander I agree If the IP is valuable there is a very good chance it will be copied.

I'm not sure how any Graphene company including FGR protects against this. I think Graphene will become a low cost commodity because if it.

"and in doing so we should seek to protect, as far as possible, the Company's IP as well as conclude the best deal for Versarien and its shareholders"

In my opinion, the IP needs to be completely protected

My Chinese friends (both lecturers in Engineering) have assured me that the Chinese government WILL steal the IP, if at all possible

· The parties intend to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of graphene development, research and industrialisation;
· Versarien will use Qingdao as one of the Company's principle places of business in China to develop the Company's Chinese market;
· Qingdao MBC will assist Versarien with establishing partnerships and business relationships with Chinese enterprises, including providing assistance in identifying any appropriate strategic investors; and
· Qingdao MBC will assist Versarien with the establishment of a China-based operating company in the form of a "Sino-foreign cooperative enterprise" or "Sino-foreign joint venture" (the "Venture"), which may include Qingdao MBC making capital contributions to the Venture.
