hxxp://www.newelectronics.co.uk/electronics-news/new-graphene-service-to-kick-start-uks-miracle-material-industry/176245/ - Graham Stuart, Minister for Investment, said: “Graphene is a revolutionary product that can make internet connections faster, filter salt water and make phone screens unbreakable, and is clearly a prime example of the innovative ability of British companies to change the landscape of manufacturing on a global scale." Wish I was invested in such a company......

This bit too. Note the last line by the Mclaren COO.

“There’s a lot of confusion in the marketplace about graphene, particularly in materials science, where it’s being touted as the next big step. When people talk about graphene, they’re not talking about a bulk material – you don’t get blocks or rolls of graphene – it exists at an atomic level, but can used to strengthen, toughen, and lighten carbon-fibre composites.

The new factory brings their carbon fibre aspect into the UK and they go on about reducing weight.

So a bit daft if they ignore the breakthrough.

According to reports at the time, the graphene characterisation service was always planned for. Rolled out between the the formation of the NGI and GEIC. As part of the UK's effort to commercialise graphene. The ISO standards is separate to this, being international in nature. Dyor. Best ellis.

Lucky

Just considering the facts, they want to reduce the weight and have been doing so for years by the use of carbon fibre. They want high end tech, so it seems daft if they ignore Nanene when they rave about it.

As per this page open the Mclaren website they are talking about what Nanene does for Carbon fibre.

COO Johnathan Neale.

How much of a step forward is graphene technology?

“We think the properties of graphene are pretty mind-blowing. Some of the mechanical properties of graphene-enhanced composites can be improved by double-digit percentages compared to regular carbon-fibre composites. In engineering, we often talk about improvements in terms of fractions of a per cent; to suddenly introduce improvements of this order is incredible, but it gives you a very clear perspective on just how much we’re discovering about the properties of graphene, and just how much it’s re-defining our existing understanding of materials science.

SG I thought that was a good shout of yours re the McLaren factory opening and into lightweighting. When you think how long they have had Nanene they might be well ahead of anyone else. Maybe they are not ordering the 3 tonnes, but maybe enough of ongoing orders to be sufficient for VRS to be confident of increasing capacity. You did say you wondered what happened to the rest of the Nanene.

The Global Graphene Expo and Conference 15-17 October 2018 Austin USA at which Neill is speaking. I don't know when he is speaking. Its a 3 day event, day 3 1:40-2:20 p.m. “Graphene Standardization: An international point of view.” Track 1: Graphene & Composites; Track 2: Graphene & superconductor industry; Track 3: Graphene & Energy storage VRS have fingers in all the pies. Don't know if it will prove to be a catalyst to widespread investor enlightenment (it may have already happened by then) but as far as a lead generator is concerned it could be huge. To misquote a well known film quote, as far as the US office is concerned we are gonna need a bigger intray. Better get another seat in the office for Matt.

I had forgotten about Hastings, he seemed keen and on the ball if I recall. It would be sad If he got spooked and sold out. It just goes show you need to be up on what is going on now, but even more importantly you need to be looking across the valley.

Hold that thought re someone covering it. The issue for years has been folk including the city completely dismissing it. VRS will change that view.

Their approach has always been quality, proof it works and can be scaled up commercially and here we are. 95% plus have jumped on the hype which left big names thinking it was just hype as they were sold graphite junk.

Run

On the ISO point. Accreditation process set up and the publication in August has me thinking it is close.

Why publish and launch the service now. Then we have the VRS US version that is in the same news.

hxxps://thegraphenecouncil.site-ym.com/page/interview2015jultb?&terms=%2522standards%2522

I spoke to Neill about this interview back in May as it clearly states 12-16 months before the council can provide a useable set of standards for a variety of areas. As I understand it, this is the case but ‘alternatives’ will be available beforehand, which is what I assume is going on right now with the verified graphene producer programme. Full standards 3-5 years away but the programme will be sufficient to prove quality for now

Discussion about interest from a tyre manufacturer didn't arrive in time for that report and in some ways is conspicuous by its absence.

Could it be that a large order is likely to land from them?

When I say large , what is large? For a small production run of tyres what quantity of Nanene would they need, 10,20, 30kg or more?

Just speculating on the three tonnes/year , now where else could it go hmmmmm?

RTJ: Er - yes - the Beeb slated D2 showing a plastic bag that had allegedly been under water for a year, not having visibly or significantly degraded, and indicating the EU may well ban it.
