Everyone talks about the demise of oil, that is too far-fetched, do you really believe that global warming will convince people entirely, and battery technology may be advancing at a rapid pace, but I don't see it as that accessible in emerging markets like Africa in terms of motor vehicles, think charging for instance!

Huge advances in battery technology will start to erode oil demand in the not too distant future.

Holmes,

150p support has held quite well so far, crude is basing out somewhere mid $20's, still early days but plenty of time to go long once a new trend direction has been confirmed.

NB, let's hope he's having a bad year! From what I have read he's betting on China to drop badly, so probably a bet that oil doesn't recover.http://uk.businessinsider.com/odey-asset-management-could-suffer-from-sainsburys-home-retail-group-takeover-offer-2016-1

Read back a bit on the TLW BB holmess and you will find I bought TLW shares yesterday morning. Not totally convinced the bearish trend is over but I know nothing goes up or down in a straight line.

A lot traders on the wrong side of oil as we know from the posters on this BB - more rumours of an OPEC meeting later today. Oil up overnight as is Dow - ftse futures indicating +100 at open.....No doubt NY Boy, Voldung et al will be posting about what happened about their bearish oil predictions ;)

Odey increased to 3.9% on 1st Feb...Are they increasing into the results? What do they know? Or have they just not banked on the PoO reversal?

However, what are the implication for Tullow?

There are 8 oil fired power stations in the world with an output above 50mW listed in wikipedia.

Station Country Location Capacity (MW) Ref
Coleson Cove Generating Station Canada 45°09′13″N 66°12′11″W 1,050 [1]
Holyrood Thermal Generating Station Canada 47°27′10″N 53°05′43″W 490
Kashima Power Station Japan 35°52′47″N 140°41′22″E 4,400 [2]
Mount Stuart Power Station Australia 33°23′36″S 149°58′14″E 414 [3]
Oi Thermal Power Station Japan 35°36′54″N 139°45′24″E 1,050 [2][4]
Penny's Bay Power Station China 22°19′15″N 114°02′31″E 300 [5]
Surgut-1 Power Station Russia 61°16′46″N 73°29′20″E 3,268 [6][7]
Whirinaki Power Station New Zealand 39°22′34″S 176°53′36″E 155

I expect, that even if the eight power stations shutdown, it would have a negligible impact on consumption.

Hi, yes the oil futures are far to volatile to second guess or for PIs to trade.TLW is volatile enough! Should be a good day tomorrow if oil holds its gains.

Evening hearts1 - oddly those same posters have been very quiet today ;) - They need to learn the simple lesson - don't try and fight the market or hold a fixed position, just go with the flow, up or down.

Looks like those thinking Brent will fall back to sub $27 are going to be ' caught short ' Last year shorts would have hammered down drops like today, but instead they are closing quickly.

Brent looking very buoyant. If the Asians don't ruin things marketwise could be quite pleasant tomorrow.
