gbh2 - sometimes it is good to learn by doing things, and not to not do things because you haven't learnt yet. If the stakes are not too high, then this is good practice. It helps when someone who knows more than you is happy to share information and help you to learn - speedsgh he comprehends this concept

CdMona - Dividend not declared yet so no ex-div date yet. Next payment should be the final maintenance dividend (May) followed by the special div (Jun/Jul).

Final results are scheduled for 3rd March which should confirm the dates you are looking for.

Eastbourne, You say the markets have surged this week, they have only recovered lost ground & in my opinion the ftse is still bumping along the bottom with plenty of upside to come.I have been in the construction industr for 34 years even if house prices fall this will have very litle impact on TW profits, As when demand falls So do Labour & material costs ( These have risen by about 25% in some cases in recent years). Low Interest rates have been mentioned but as the average mortgage interst is about 3% PA I don't really call this Cheap IMHO there is no need for it to increase unless inflation spirals out of control & I really dont see this Happening for a long time yet, At the moment things are improving steadily & thats the way it should be, IMHO we will see short term peaks & trough in house sales & prices but overall a steady increase year on year for the forseable future.

I've no interest in Taxable Interest, my relationship with self-assessment is and has been none existent for several years and I'd like it to stay that way.

Just keep the cash in your share account.

Mind you, I like to have 20K or thereabouts in my Santander A/C as it pays 3% after the first 3k up to 20k, over 40 quid a month interest there.

Interest rates will NEVER rise! Oh no! The UKs obsession with property will continue. One day it may end in tears but not yet.
