According to the Home Builders Federation (HBF), planning approvals increased in the UK by 34% to 185,266 in the year to September 2013 (2012: 138,441). This remains significantly less than the number of homes needed on an annual basis, highlighting the fact that planning remains the fundamental constraint on the size of the industry and our business.

Least we forget Mr Pickles upcoming speech that will no doubt put this little issue to bed. ;;-)

Recovery puts housebuilders on course for FTSE 100

Britain's housing boom is propelling two more builders towards inclusion in the FTSE 100.

Barratt Developments, with a market value of nearly £4.3 billion, its highest since autumn 2007, and Taylor Wimpey, which has a market capitalisation approaching £4.2 billion that was last seen in early 2008, are set for inclusion in the index of Britain's biggest companies at its reshuffle early next month.

Promotion will be decided based on the group's closing share prices on March 6. Under the criteria operated by FTSE Group, which runs the indices and is owned by the London Stock Exchange, a company is eligible for promotion from the FTSE 250 index of medium-sized groups if it is valued more highly than the 90th biggest company in the FTSE.

Gbh2 - it's going to be close but there was a very large buy on Friday for TW as well as a large sell for BDEV. It'll be a photo finish.Thankfully I'm in both as well as INL which looks like it's about to resume it's rise (though is a million miles from the FTSE).

Dont know why people get so excited about entry into ftse 100. Previouse shares i have been involved with seldom fly on inclusion most have ploded sedately on
following the moves of this less volatile index . As for tracker funds pumping
the price most get in on a price held within a tight range until the trades are complete. If you want to see the price move rapidly wait until a fund decides to
sell it can bring water to your eyes.I see no problem with the gains this share has been making recently, if it aint broke dont fix it , as they say. imho.
