18/2/2018 22:09 | I actually think this company is bloody cheap at the moment, just irked that it has been marked down on a slightly cautious sentence in the last statement, and what is being suggested above concerning NAFTA; you have farmers in Indiana stating the abolition of the free trade agreement being disastrous for them, and Florida tomato producers as being hopeful of higher tariffs being placed upon imported produce from Mexico, the other side of the coin are the citrus growers in Florida requiring a continuity in the existing agreement, so it may be that Trump should let the negotiators decide rather than thrusting himself into the argument! | bookbroker
16/2/2018 18:07 | EI, many thanks , you seem to have a good handle on this NAFTA business :-) Plane to catch , Nice for a few days . Good weekend everyone. | philanderer
16/2/2018 14:36 | Hi Phil, the states most impacted by a NAFTA dissolution are staunch GOP areas, so would be surprised to see the pact come to an end. From memory NAFTA was also ratified by the House and Senate, I'm unsure if Trump constitutionally could take a sole decision on this. There are also agreements on exports with Mexico outside of NAFTA and renewed last September, which cover some of the areas TATE operates in. I could be wrong of course!. | essentialinvestor

16/2/2018 00:16 | Thu, 15th February 2018 - 16:54 LONDON (Alliance News) - Tate & Lyle PLC said Thursday two people closely associated with Chief Executive Officer Javed Ahmed bought shares in the agribusiness in two transactions on Wednesday. The beneficial shareholding of Javed Ahmed - CEO since 2009, due to retire in April - or those associated with him after the transaction was not disclosed. | philanderer

15/2/2018 10:36 | Nafta has been in the wings for quite a long time. The recent drop is as if there's been a big profit warning, whereas they are actually in line, despite investment slowing second half growth. In a positive market, that would have been an update to consolidate the share price, following by good noises about them investing for the future. Looks like people are jumping out of their skins, whenever anyone says 'boo' at the moment. | yump
15/2/2018 10:12 | Going nowhere with the NAFTA overhang... 'Next Round of Nafta Talks Will Move Up a Day to Start Feb. 25, Sources Say' | philanderer
15/2/2018 10:11 | I would rather an activist investor, Ahmed done an ok job in a very uninspiring sector, but this needs to be shaken up, it has gone nowhere in the last six years, a relatively small company in the big world of food products and additives, would do better as part of a bigger entity, and without the scrutiny of an independent! Easy takeover, at the right price shareholders would grab the cash, US seems to be the issue with the growth part, but the Far East the future. | bookbroker
15/2/2018 09:49 | Chart support at 535p then again at 505p. Maybe a few of the other board members should be buying a few if they're such good value here ;-) | philanderer
15/2/2018 09:11 | Takeover rumours will re-emerge at these levels, seems unreasonable that price come off so much on one line in the last statement about investment for the future slowing growth profile, but that is the market, rumours abounded two tears ago, and low debt profile should prove attractive to predators, not sure where they will emerge from as Bunge, once an interested party, now being eaten by by ADM. | bookbroker
15/2/2018 09:05 | Big boys probably want to drive this down to around 500 RSI now at 18 Take out as many stops as possible and then boom share price back up to 800p Same old same old | topdoc

13/2/2018 18:06 | Yes it's potentially an attractive bid target, however would not consider buying TATE for that reason. Buy if you like the Company and think risk/reward looks reasonable longer term. | essentialinvestor
13/2/2018 17:01 | It is a value play to a predator, relatively low net debt, even lower pension deficit, and stable, if steady, profits, potentially a nice addition to a larger entity in a consolidating market! | bookbroker
13/2/2018 12:48 | Hopefully ! | eastbourne1982
13/2/2018 12:35 | £7.50? Lmao, they would want about £9 at least. | essentialinvestor
13/2/2018 12:28 | Bought in today at £5.69, these are in takeover territory now imho. £7.50 would probably take this out, given the share price was £7 only a few weeks ago that would be a decent buy for the buyer. | eastbourne1982
13/2/2018 10:49 | There are a lot of moving parts to TATE, FX, commodity prices, NAFTA, Sucralose oversupply etc. However, compare the valuation of PURE to TATE. Now in fairness PURE is focussed on one area, even so, look at the comparative Pre tax and in particular FCF of both businesses re their respective market caps. | essentialinvestor
13/2/2018 10:37 | Agreed. I just got a few at <572p FWIW. | value hound
13/2/2018 10:11 | I don't see what the problem was with the update, apart from the fact that the business is investing for the future, which is never greeted well, unless the brokers and analysts want to push the share - same old. Bizarrely although investment will dampen growth in the second half, they're still in line. Compare that to a few companies where 'investment' will result in a profit hit... o/t You can see why the whole ethos in the UK is minimal support for business from government. I just wonder how the SME's that are going to export more to the Middle East and Asia are going to cope with their shall we say 'flexible payment terms', without any sort of help from our government, especially if interest rates rise. | yump |
