Tate & Lyle (TATE) announced that Warren Tucker has been appointed as a non-executive director and a member of the audit, remuneration and nominations committees. He’s also a non-executive director at Reckitt Benckiser (RB.) and Thomas Cook Group (TCG). Tate & Lyle chairman Gerry Murphy said Mr Tucker’s experience in strategy, acquisitions and expansion into developing markets will be a “significant benefit” to the board. Shares were flat in early trading. Buy.

Tate & Lyle: outlook is rosier, says Jefferies

Tate & Lyle (TATE) is looking ‘rosier’ and the valuation has moved to capture this improved outlook, says Jefferies.

Analyst Martin Deboo retained his ‘hold’ recommendation and increased his target price from 700p to 725p. The shares rose 1.3% to 671.8p yesterday.

‘We are looking for £161 million of profit before tax at the first half and are now consensual for the full year, subject to concerns around commodity profits and freight costs,’ he said.

‘Tate’s garden continues to get rosier, something which valuations has moved to capture.’

He said in the ‘context of an improving outlook’ there were still risks from volatile commodity prices, freight cost pressure, and the fact Tate has ‘mean reverted to at or close to its three-year average price/earnings ratio and yield metrics’.
