It's all down to how they can generate profits now.
Big ask or In the bag? Who knows.
They've got a very firm platfom now to operate from and a fortune can be made from a well run r and d telco co. Effectively thats what they are now. But has the management got the ability to deliver. They need to convince the big boys.
My gut feeling is that they are too small and need to hook up with a bigger player. R and D eats money daily spt needs to generate.imo lol etc

Does any of the recent price behaviour seem familiar to the brown trousered brigade? FID are never in for the long haul. They are happy to build up a holding, generate a head of steam and dump on some newsflow

Well Golf4All that sums it up. Spirent's 1% return or 4% after tax from a no risk savings account. You choose!

How much interest were they paying on the £70m worth of loan notes, for a start?

See Fly3's post to Knife from 23rd September :

"Cannot argue against your comments but thats assuming they need to sell off HT.
Thats the nub of it.
Agree that focuss will give better results but why kill the cash cow.
Without HT Spirent t/o is £126.5m and an operating profit of £1.8m ( a bit more than 1%)
The Spirent directors will need to have some pretty heavy plans in mind to replace the HT profit
I think I'd rather have my money in the bank at no risk and get 5% return !!"

Trouble with this telecoms game as Vodafone have found out(particularly there shareholders) with ever decreasing profit margins the only way is to expand and that needs cash.

I am now rather overloaded with these! As I see it, the share price dropped back with short-term profit taking (lots of relatively small sales) which MMs hoovered up. I imagine US opened and a few sold seeing the higher price without analysing why it had jumped. Fair price now surely much higher, even without bid possibility.

At what price though?? This whacky share is just as likely to go up 6% and then down again in the same day.

well we had support at 70p at the start of the year before the storm clouds gathered, so on today's news and volume there is every reason to think we are headed back to 70p very soon. Tomorrow and monday's trading will be good indicators.
