mixture of both i bet there are no covenants on the loan notes and a 47 million def on the pension is not that big

so neither has to be paid

Seems to be very much a case of putting the financial house in order in the short term - and in that respect, appears to be a good deal. Fundementals will look considerably better.

Not so sure where it places SPT in the longer term though.

Surely you don't get type error in this sort of announcement! Sounds like a special div & buyback to me.


Apart from returning a part of the money to shareholders Spirent intends to
use the proceeds to buy back up to 50 mln stg worth of company shares and repay
outstanding loan notes of 70.4 mln stg.
It also plans to make a special contribution into its UK final salary
pension scheme of 47 mln stg, being the most recent estimate of the deficit in
accordance with IAS 19.

make of this? goldman sucks gave spt a valuation of 50p sum of parts
in october!
