Must admit I thought there would be a bigger bounce today which is why I topped up and averaged down early morning. There has to be recovery and/or bid potential here.A good new ceo from the insurance sector ie the man from Direct Line would imo lead to an immediate bounce. The difficulty is deciding whether to buy more.Is the price being kept artificially low for some reason?

It seems that everyone has forgotten that very recently the chairman said the results from the new strategy were encouraging which must mean, at worst, in line with expectations or perhaps better. When you look at the revenue and profits, even at the lower end of forecasts, this is still a very good business which has been undervalued by market manipulators and have no doubt in the medium to long term, this will be an an excellent investment.

Wow - Takeover potential. Somebody only mentioned that last week on here (Erogenous Jones if I remember correctly) “I wouldn’t want to see it sold for anything less than 80-100p [per share],” the fund manager said. “It’s really, really cheap value stock. Profits will rise, the strategy now is good.”"

JusticefortheChemist, ATM, there is no statement from the Company ("BOD" - Board of Directors) that they are "actively seeking a takeover". It seems probable that you have just 'made that up' to fit along with your "I would not want to be short" comment. Fortunately it will have no impact on the s/p. It could, however, negatively impact on other individuals were they persuaded by your argument, which is unfair don't you think? Edmond - fwiw I had an excellent tour of Chile, Bolivia and Peru s few years back with Saga and have a tour of South Korea and Japan lined up for March next year. Couldn't fault the South American trip. Those younger cruisers probably go on the mega ships whereas us educated oldies probably prefer smaller boats so even if the percentage is lower, which I don't believe incidentally, there's more than enough of us to fill the Saga capacity. Having said that I've only cruised with them once.I have to admit though that they must waste a huge amount of money sending me brochures every five minutes. It's going to be an interesting opening tomorrow.

TELEGRAPH - TAKEOVER @ 80p-100p+/share Another top 10 shareholder said he felt Saga was now “definitely221; at risk of being taken over while Royal London Asset Management, the group’s fifth largest investor, said it would back a deal for the right price tag. “We’re not resistant to a takeover from a fundamental basis, but it would have to be at a reasonable valuation,” said fund manager Richard Marwood. Discussions about a takeover approach follow a turbulent period for the company. It has blamed its problems on intense competition in the insurance market as well as costs linked with the collapse of the airline Monarch, that its holiday arm used. In April it unveiled a “fundamental” change in strategy and an annual loss which sent shares plunging to a record low. Investors said at the time that the share price collapse could leave it “vulnerable221; to a merger bid. One top five investor said his “dream ticket” to replace Mr Batchelor would be an insurance expert “like Paul Geddes”, the former head of Direct Line who is leaving Britain’s largest motor insurer next month. I would not want to be short here....BOD now actively seeking a takeover.

Here's the opener to what's actually reported: The Telegraph, Business Lucy Burton, banking editor 16 June 2019 • 8:00pm "Saga's biggest investors fear the troubled over-50s insurer and tour operator is at risk of being sold “on the cheap” as its shares continue a long slide. One top five investor told The Sunday Telegraph that he fears private equity firms are circling in the hope they might be able to capitalise on its recent woes and grab a bargain. He said his biggest concern is that it gets sold “on the cheap”. “I wouldn’t want to see it sold for anything less than 80-100p [per share],” the fund manager said. “It’s really, really cheap value stock. Profits will rise, the strategy now is good.”" .../contin. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2019/06/16/saga-decline-raises-fears-cheap-takeover-bid-predator/ Sunday reporting. In spite of the opening para. at least someone appears to be selling down in reasonable size. What if 'the fund manager' is just talking his own book? (His last sentence seems telling.)

I spoke earlier with an effluent septugenarian who's been a mistress of following UK equities and spends most of her time reading negative made up conversations. She doesn't agree. HBR

I spoke earlier today with an affluent octogenarian who's been a master at contrarian UK equities and nowadays spends most of his time on cruises and foreign travel. So I was interested if Saga at 35p was on his radar, what he makes of the Travel side. Pretty dismissive: that all mailings from Saga end up in the bin, they are relatively expensive for what you get. Doesn't like the company. It seemed he'd had a bad experience on a Rhine cruise a while ago. Again for balance, if anyone has a more positive view then do post it.

wskill, Buzz..., repetition! (Didn't you post the same thing previously?) Now, just a minute, rather than just "worldwide" consider the demographic. "Market research firm Mintel has found that 38% of those who are interested in taking a sea cruise in the next five years are aged 16-34, while 34% are aged 35-54 and only 28% are aged 55-plus." hTTps://www.theguardian.com/travel/2019/jun/16/cruise-floats-boat-instagram-generation-millennials-travel-holidays hTTps://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/29/how-norwegian-cruise-line-is-preparing-for-millennials-to-hop-aboard.html hTTps://cruising.org/news-and-research/-/media/CLIA/Research/CLIA%202019%20State%20of%20the%20Industry.pdf There are two sides to every coin. It will be some time before we'll learn the result of Saga's contrasting positioning.
