Recent news and budget activity around Small Modular Reactors looks interesting and exciting. If we have the technology, let us seriously consider it. If Rolls-Royce can make headway here this company is looking extremely well positioned for a good long-term investment. I would like to build-up my holding but I feel the share price has got slightly ahead of itself, nothing really to substantiate this belief, just a gut feeling.

Nice order from Italian navy, more significant than the value of the contract would suggest

R R at Derby have first class engineers many who came through the G I T program if that's still running. The nature of the business is such that engineers invariably get promoted, all I was saying really was management not only need to know HOW but WHY. It would appear that the middle management is being culled and a shortage on the design side

Anyway onward and upward lets see what China does to-day.

Well said Minerve . The previous CEO was a Finance guy and totally clueless. I would add to your list Nigel Stien (GKN), McMurtry (Renishaw) and J C Bamford. In my opinion an Engineering Company CEO needs to be a good businessman from an engineering background as a pre-requisite.

I disagree with your view about business men vs engineers. It implies that they are mutually exclusive, which they are not. Think Clive Dyson, Hossein Yassaie as two modern, quick examples.

Both business acumen and an intimate knowledge of the products and services are needed at board level. Businessmen alone will not understand the unique advantages of Rolls-Royce products and if no engineering acumen is represented at board level then that allows intangible value destruction in the business which will ultimately lead to failure.

The richest man in the world was both a businessman and an engineer.

Jefferies is a Boutique Bank more in tune with M & A and I think American with a London office.

RR is not a basket case it need business men running it not engineers , the order book is fantastic.

Just think East was / is doing a fair job; taken the top job, reviewed matters, identified were change was needed, made some tough decisions, etc. Not grumbling about the very recent share price increase but think the recovery had already started without the direct 'involvement' of VA.

Completely agree. I would suspect it is Valueact buying more now they feel they have got the foot through the door. It is all down to the BOD listening to the majority of investors, not just those who like throwing their toys out the pram from time-to-time .

How depressing.
This 'activist' investor clown joins the board of RR. and the share price rises.
Reminds me of when Weinstock left GEC/Marconi and the dynamic Simpson and Mayo took over.
the share price soared on their exciting plans, the city loved them.
They were shown to idiots who destroyed a steady well run company.

It is sad when it takes outsiders to make the RR. board do things they are too inept to do themselves.
I hope this lot are not agents for someone like Pratt who would love to get their hands on RR. large engine portfolio.
That would be the beginning of the end.
