"Rolls-Royce enters new market with contract to design cruise ship"

"Rolls-Royce’s troubled marine unit has delivered a rare piece of good news, landing a £25m deal to design a new generation of environmentally friendly cruise ships.

The two vessels for Norwegian operator Hurtigruten will be capable of sailing in the polar regions, and as well as the innovative design, Rolls will also supply equipment to the ships."

Clearly Rolls are in need of more potentially profitable orders in the Marine Division but they have orders for many years ahead for the Aerospace division. Their productivity and profitability is way behind their main competitor GE however. The recent weakness in Sterling will be of significant benefit to Rolls has GE acknowledged at Farnborough. Warren East believes that there is scope for further productivity improvements and the success or failure in this regard will IMO determine the direction of the share price in the medium term.

ITP news is more significant than first appears particularly post Brexit vote, not only does is increase RR's share of key defense programs, it further cements RR's position as the champion of Europes Aeroengine industry. RR recently made other significant moves in its OEM supply chain with this goal in mind by setting up join ventures with the likes of Germany's Leibherr and France's Hispano Suiza (Safran)

And Virgin Atlantic is expected to announce a new plane order when owner Sir Richard Branson flies into the show today.
The airline, which counts America’s Delta as a major shareholder, will buy 12 Airbus A350-1000s in a deal worth £2.9billion.
Virgin’s order will also be a boost to British engineering giant Rolls-Royce, which has landed the £700million deal to provide the Trent XWB engines that power the planes.

"Rolls-Royce takes full ownership of ITP"

"Rolls-Royce is taking full control of one its key aerospace partners, paying €720m for the 53 per cent of Industria de Turbo Propulsores it does not already own.

ITP, which is the ninth largest aircraft engine and components company in the world by revenue, is based in Bilbao in Spain and employs 3,000 people worldwide writes the FT’s John Murray Brown. It has partnered Rolls-Royce on all its Trent engine programmes working on turbine technologies, with a particular expertise in super-alloys."

Dont worry about orders if they get any big ones you can guarantee the share price will go down. Good as gold these shares at the moment can't beat selling your products in dollars is what I say.

"Rolls-Royce plans to develop remotely-controlled autonomous ship by 2020"

"UK-based engineering company Rolls-Royce has unveiled plans to design and develop a remotely controlled and autonomous ship, as early as 2020.

In a recently published whitepaper, the Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications Initiative (AAWA), led by Rolls-Royce, has elaborated its vision of making remote and autonomous shipping a reality.

As part of the AAWA project, a test of sensor arrays has been conducted aboard Finferries' 65m double ended ferry, Stella, which operates between Finland's Korpo and Houtskär."

Mikael Mäkinen, president of the Norway-based marine business, arrived at the company just as oil began to plunge.

“The market just collapsed,” says Mäkinen, speaking at the company’s technical centre in Alesund, northwest Norway. “Having been in the marine business for 30 years, I’ve seen the oil price fall before but it went down and down and just stayed there. OUT for more freedom for our companies. OUT for more freedom from the 7 new laws every day handed down to our parliament. OUT for freedom from the new taxation legislation for essential foodstuffs so far exempted. OUT to avoid the new EU tax on pension savings plans. OUT to avoid the proposed tax, or levy as they put it, to build the EU armed forces. OUT to avoid being given accountancy laws from a body that has not given full accounts for 21 years. OUT to avoid the Road Fund legislation being bought across the whole of Europe that will see a further 11 Motorways having Tolls by 2018, there now being just one. OUT to be able to take business to China, Russia, Brazil, India, United States without risk of increase to Out of Euro Zone Tariff agreements. It can just go on and on. And if they get the in vote then we will be paying far far more because then these enelected officials who have these draconian laws behind them.
