10/4/2019 17:48 | Sats, with Halifax my compulsory notification date is the 9th. However, I am not sure when holding such shares, as I don't have the certificates and assume halifax does, whether in fact halifax owns the shares and I am buying effectively notes of interest, as institutions will sell, lend, borrow and short those shares that I have paid for. If I have my own shares certificates.. which I do with some shares I don't think they can do that. So I am working on that my contract is through halifax who in turn have shares in Arris. Hmm, I have not really thought about that and exactly what you are buying when you buy shares on such platforms. | 1carus
09/4/2019 21:22 | Thanks 1carus. I am with Interactive Investor (formerly TDW before being taken over) and ARIS no longer shows in my portfolio although the Cash equivalent is now in my US Dollar account. The transaction isn't showing in the History section (it might update overnight) but there is a formal Corporate Action Notification dated 5/04/19 with the following snippet:- Merger Effective date: 5th April 2019 Terms: USD31.75 for each share held Pay date: Upon Receipt Arris International Limited has merged with Commscope Holdings Co Inc, effective from 5th April 2019 Its a close call and really hope I can use today's date of 9th April which means the transaction just falls within my 19/20 CGT allowance. Anyone else have a view? thanks Sats | sats
09/4/2019 20:05 | Sats, my cash view shows the transaction to be the 9th --- that is what I will use.! | 1carus
09/4/2019 19:42 | Sats ... shares have turned up in my Halifax share dealing account also today. Strangely my trading history has not updated yet. It will be interesting to see the date that they record. ( hoping the 9th) | 1carus
09/4/2019 19:34 | Sats... I think this is marginal. If you were buying a share it seems to be legally yours at the point of initiating the trade not when it settles. But not sure when you are selling it. I would simply use the date that you received the money though. If you are below the threshold for this year you don't have to declare it and draw attention to it. If you are above the threshold the transaction dates that you have will show dates after the 5th into your account etc. I would keep it simple. | 1carus
09/4/2019 16:26 | Hi All, After two decades invested in the roller-coaster journey of Pace Micro I have today received funds for the last tranche of shares held as Arris which in total has returned me 4 times my investment. I have enjoyed reading the many posts posted by the regular people and although this is my first on ADVFN I believe I am one of the many ‘silent’ readers out there. I have a question which may also apply to other people in a similar situation. Since the CommScope announcement I have been selling half my Arris holding to utilise mine & hers CGT allowance for the tax year 2018/19 on the hope the actual completion would take place after 5th April 2019 so as to utilise the 2019/20 year’s CGT allowance for the remaining half however, the Effective Merger date has been recoded as 5th April 2019 which is the last date of 2018/19 tax year but because funds were not actually received until today April 9th 2019 can I use today’s date and record the sale in 2019/20 tax year for the last half of my shares? Hope this makes sense and all the best to you All in your future investing. | sats
09/4/2019 16:00 | So do we have a time line for the shares to be converted to cash and the payments to be made. Last time it took ages with the need for many rubber stamps. ( I cant remember, was that because it was a uk to USA deal or something)( I think we had to send forms off to our respective brokerages also ... hopefully we wont have to do that again as there are no shares involved) | 1carus

06/4/2019 00:09 | I guess it is about 5 years since I finally met Andy, Bashor and 1gw at the Pace AGM when we discussed the Arris offer announced just before the meeting. It is sad to think that we are discussing the 'struggling STB business' that used to be Pace Micro Technology when I joined then in August 1989. I have really benefited from my Pace experience and I am grateful for my whole Pace experience. They were a fantastic team and I hope they pull through this next crisis. It is sad to see the end of this journey, so good luck to all and goodbye. | alexmcdonald
05/4/2019 10:10 | Cheers andyble, sorry to see you go. Were you really not tempted by CommScope, especially now that Bruce McCl is COO? I note the speculation since deal announcement that they might try to sell the "struggling set top business" which would be a shame for the Pace heritage investors (and employees). It seems to me it could still surprise to the upside if we get US-China resolution in the near future and component/memory prices continue to slide. Isn't there a whole world to roll out xfinity boxes to, even without upgrade iterations in the US? I'm still hoping to be upgraded to a Comcast xfinity-heritage box with my Sky subscription at some point. In the meantime, now that it has completed, the CommScope focus I presume will be integration and cash generation to reduce debt. I would hope the underlying business is strongly-enough cash generative not to be tempted by a cut-price sale of the STB business. Who would they sell to anyway? | 1gw |
