Very substantial trade volume, and similar for COMM and ARRS. Therein perhaps lies a clue. Short ARRS and go long in COMM, setting a price limit for both of $25. Read into that someone who feels this is not going to happen. Note though that those on the other side of the trade in that volume feel otherwise. Interesting times to come and maybe soon.

This really is so bizarre - both share prices heading for the same at around $25! Are we on the verge of a merger announcement! Surely not and must be a coincidence, please! Edit - 19:19:44 both prices $25.00

I think you are articulating exactly why the price is where it is - the bet of is it or isn't it and then will it etc could be weighted 3 down or 7 up - and I still believe there is more to go for if no deal - today may be the formal date that exclusions can be granted for the 25% tariffs - and I also see value at these levels - I am going to sweat this through unless perhaps it teases with the odds the other way around and whilst there is so much other value out there.

I presume that people being plural meant they had checked their source with another. Bizarre too is the share price movements since. First they seemed tied then Arris broke up and now they seem to be gravitating to the same price. I think that results day next week must be the limit of the time horizon here for some comment. Does Comm report before trading and ARRS after. I am inclined to think there is something in it but will only stick around if Arris management take over. I still think 1 for 1 plus $8.

“After a long day of driving, hiking and chasing waterfalls, Proxy Falls was last on our list. As the sun was slowly setting, I raced up the hill hoping to catch the last light,” writes Your Shot photographer Andy Vu. “Just a short hike to these beautiful massive waterfalls, I was amazed by how tall it is. I was challenged to capture the entire waterfall so I decided to step into the frame to give it scale.” Photograph by Andy Vu

Your Shot photographer Gonzalo Corral photographed this camel caravan in the Sahara Desert. Your Shot Producer David Y. Lee writes, “I love Your Shot photographer Kimberly Coates’s comment: ‘Wow, what a fabulous shot! I once rode camels in a Berber caravan through the Sahara, and it was a magical experience, so this takes me back! Your shot is very subtle, but packs a punch. I love the soft tones and shadows cast by the variable sand dunes. I also love how you chose to frame the camels off to the right with the trees balancing out the frame on the left. Great work, Gonzalo.’̶1; Photograph by Gonzalo Corral

When the results are announced I will hopefully be waving the builders off after 9 months of ups and downs. Finishing off on an up so I'll take that.

Yes but this knowledge is in the market already and explains in part why we saw some low numbers until the latest news. We also have to bear in mind that there is a full view in one direction in those papers and a moderated view very much the other way in their guidance a few days ago. However, so far they have been helped by the authorities and although this is not certain for the 25% tariffs one has to place bets it could happen again especially with the weight of signatories showing. Whatever though, I agree it is serious still in terms of manufacturing changes for any likely outcome, and it is all about how can the financial effects and expectations be mitigated too. There is certainly downside risk and large numbers in play, but the flip side is that there is a long list of upsides to capture too. If a solution even just 12mths is granted then the market would respond to that relief. Also practically this needs to be sorted before recommended terms are agreed for any sale. The results day in two weeks must be feeling very close. In summary, there are so many variables in play, all massive for the future, and many overlapping, so it is like a coiled up spring that is either going to buckle under the pressure or bolt up and it has to be one or other and in the near time frame. It is almost impossible to set a realistic basis to make any decisions looking in from out here. Tinderbox comes to mind and is that fireworks day coming or a nasty storm.

Andy, this is very serious and from my past knowledge of setting up manufacturing lines other than China, there is the additional costs of duplicating the manufacturing equipment in another country and the training of operators to manufacture the goods. This is going to need additional investment having invested already in China.
The solution could be for the Chinese manufacturing company to move production to a facility in Mexico or some other USA friendly state such as the UK!

What do people think the time schedule for this would be. I think Pace / Arris was about 6 months once the structure of the deal was announced.

I am sure that I recently read that some analysts are predicting $63 a share for Arris within 12 to 18 months. Perhaps it's Arris that are going to buy CommScope. They used to be together when they were all part of General Instruments until around 1997.
Pace was also in the sights of General Instruments in 1995.
As Jeff Baumgartner suggests, 'the band might be getting back together'!!!!!

This article has been updated for xmas :-

"Update: BTIG Research analyst Walt Piecyk also weighed in today, suggesting that CommScope would need to acquire Arris for between $6 billion to $6.5 billion, plus the assumption of Arris's net debt of $1.6 billion. Piecyk estimates that the combined company could realize $300 million to $450 million in annual cost synergies in SG&A (Selling, General and Administrative) expenses within 24 months, and play a part in a takeout price of $30 to $33 per share for Arris. Piecyk also believes that CommScope should offer at least one-third of the purchase price in stock."

Good luck with that Alex, if you think about all the money that’s been spent since the Pace takeover and Arris hit $37 on that announcement all those years ago
