The fall is shocking MrPhil. Much more and I will need to think of selling at a loss. ISAT was c. 3.5% of my portfolio, larger than my average holding, and it makes me more nervous with so much in one company when it is not performing as expected. I don't want it to turn into a disaster like CLLN.

Looks like I may need to join you guys in ISAT at this rate!

Aleman, sadly I don't need to pay in instalments just yet, maybe next year! ;-)

Larger companies pay in instalments that start just into the second half of the accounting year. (It sounds like it could get complicated if you get sudden losses!) The corporation tax trend will be fairly up-to-date for larger listed companies that report twice per year.

Aleman, how is that Corporation Tax info collated? We don't pay it until 9 months after the year end so is it based on receipts, in which case the Q3 info would relate to last year? We don't know what our liability will be until a few months after the year end so that would be difficult to monitor. Or am I missing something?

DF - I'm finding results don't seem to matter any more. The good news is quickly forgotten. The market us selling off more and more small and midcaps.

Consumers are more indebted than ever. Investors are margin trading more than ever. It only takes slight interest rate rises and/or a slight economic slowdown (loss of hours/overtime) for them to become sellers of assets to meet debt payments. A squeeze on UK consumers and investors might hit UK small and midcaps without touching big international foreign earners if the slowdown is not globally widespread (yet).

Growth in production taxes and VAT slowed in October to less than inflation from being comfortably ahead earlier in the year. Also fuel duty fell slightly. I find it very hard not to think we were flirting with recession in October from these numbers, which is also indicated by retail sales and a big rise in "inactives" and part-time self employed in employment numbers.

Corporation tax has fallen for 4 consecutive months Y-o-Y after being on a strong upward trend before that - more than 20% up between 15/16 and 16/17 and more recently: Q1/17 +28%, Q2 +9%, Q3 -3%. Corporation tax makes it look like a recession has started.

Decent results from CPG, yet they go down 3%. Why, I wonder?

There are lots of reports of increased vulcanism around the world but Iceland is probably where we should be watching most. Some solar scientists and vulcanologists link it to a change of phase from global warming to cooling.

Looks like Swedes are getting as bad as Brits with snow. An inch or two and all the public transport gets cancelled in Stockholm. It's hard to believe.

There are suggestions that somewhere in southern England could see a record high tomorrow. The early snows are creeping closer, though. Some sources say we'll see snow on the UK's Northern hills at the weekend and some even say snow to low levels and parts of the South.

White Christmas odds are have shortened even further in England, with London at 4/1 and Manchester at 7/2.

Morning all, a mildly positive start for me. SFR and TEP are reporting today, both have been received positively by the market. ICP is continuing to rise and again looks a strong contender for the best value riser.

Morning All.

Another dull day yesterday with a high of 12.7°C which only dropped to 11.3°C overnight.

Haven't read this yet although I did contribute

Remember that broker's letter, published in the WSJ, that Bitcoin futures would be so volatile that they would threaten the clearing system?

Just got back from Chichester, been to a meeting at County Hall. A bit wet on the way home.

+0.36% today. ICP is the stand out best value riser, accounting for almost half the overall rise, and TEP is the worst value faller.

Light rain all day. Thankfully the water pressure was restored after the school run. :-)

The SIPP swung back and forth between negative and positive throughout the day but dived towards the close. Clearly not a good time to be holding utilities! SIPP -0.35% UU., SSE & CTO but better news for the pot which managed +0.33% thanks to AMS, SGC & RR.

New series of Would I Lie To You tonight, need cheering up!

A lot of red, today, but mostly small beer. -0.5%. Today was the 4th day the FTSE100 tried to regain its 200-day average and failed, although it poked a nose above the parapet a time or two. In my mind, this is one set of bots fighting another set of bots and the winner will be determined by who has the deepest pockets or who programs theirs to switch sides. I might be seeing things that are not there, though!

A mild day but did not really feel it with a breeze and cold drizzle to start. The sun came out too late to warm the house any. Hopefully, we'll get the benefit of a milder evening, too. 13.1C after 3.6C.

This looks more and more like a bubble to me - but a bubble like railroad stocks where a few survived as many crashed. And those few are just another form of transport, today. It is revolutionary but the way it is being pushed is like snake-oil salesmen to buyers panicking they'll miss a gravy train. I think it is going to bring disruptive change but I also think it is also building up to a painful crash. There are ads everywhere for people to put money in. This is moving capital away from some worthwhile low-return investments into an intensely speculative new arena full of sharks.

Factset S&P500 Q3 earnings up one point to +6.2% with 95% reported. Q4 held steady at an expected +10.0%. 2018 held steady at an expected +11.1%. Forward P/E 18.0. Trailing P/E 22.0.
