Only discovered during the HIWWT event on Friday that the regular Robin you always have in your garden is actually a different one throughout the year. At some point, the "summer" one decides to move South for the winter (ours would probably pop across to France or Spain) and a replacement drops in from Scandinavia. Explains why he didn't understand what I was saying yesterday - should have spoken in Norwegian!

All the leftover branches and broken twigs were a bit messier than I thought but I found it therapeutic in the sun and it all burned well. The fire ashes were still hot and ignited everything quickly without too much smoke. A robin kept me company as he watched for whatever I might uncover and I was blessed with the sight of a sparrowhawk shooting down the garden towards me at pace at head height, with wings retracted and wathching me intently for any response, before making some minor adjustments to skillfully weave between me and a few bushes. It was quite a sight.

Morning all, lovely blue skies here but a heavy frost overnight. The weekend weather was fine too which is a bonus this time of year.

I see ISAT continues to suffer. Thankfully my miners are compensating somewhat.

MrP - no obvious problems so far, but in changing my password I've opted for the more secure 2 tier logon process with AOL. Unfortunately, I now can't read my emails on my phone etc.

I see ALD have recommended the offer. Should be pleased with a £2K profit on the shares I guess, but what happens now as a customer? In any case, why accept the first offer?

I notice a few here hold BRCI, I hold these to, all be it just a small holding, I also hold GCP and NCYF. I hold these primarily for income. Just wondered if others felt investment trusts such as these were less risky than buying shares in a standard company ?

My shares in investment trusts move very little, but, they have generated a steady income. I have been looking at buying some more in the renewable energy sector with JLEN and TRIG tickling my fancy.

Fancy the Bantams in the next round, blueliner? I don't think there's that much difference between League 1 and League 2 this year apart from a couple of clubs. Chesterfield did not do too badly in possession and got a goal that we did not think was offside. They just need to sort their sloppy defense out. Trouble is that Jack Lester is a novice manager who was a striker. Does he know how to do it? Still, all out attack seems to work okay for us.

It was noticeably chilly by the end of the game yesterday but it has given a lovely sunny start to the day, albeit cold after 1.2C. I'm hoping it will dry out enough to give the grass a final cut.

Morning
Ended down £86 on Fri, but for BGO +3.3%, IGR +2.6% & HAT +6.3%, it would have been worse thanks to the aforementioned TCAP's -6.3% fall.

+0.8% for the week, the current quarter dividends continue to accrue nicely incl a chunky payment from CLIG this week.
Folio YTD +14.7%.

Happy days at Notts County, excellent Emirates FA Cup win last night.

Temps forecast to fall tonight, widespread frost expected, wrap up warm.

A somewhat disappointing performance today, -0.32%. TCAP released a trading statement and announced the CFO is standing down with immediate effect. This seems to have spooked the market with a 6.5% fall in the share price. It is easily today's worst value faller. ECM is today's best value riser.

I managed +1.09% on the week and my YTD has fallen to +18.52%, which is still a good performance.

It was very mild today with plenty of sunshine late morning and through to mid-afternoon. I found it very pleasant and the best day of the week so far.

Have a good weekend all. :-)

I'm up +0.082% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.067%). up +1.02% on the week (FTSE100 +0.74%) and up +5.91% YTD (FTSE100 +5.85% and HIX +3.08%).

Best rises: KGF +2.42%, TATE +2.15% and BA. +1.37%.

Worst falls: BT.A -1.50%, BLT -1.25% and AV. -1.07%.

Another nice day once the fog had cleared by 10am. I decided that I had better do some gardening. Brambles, Ivy and next door's rambling rose got some cutting back. I took 3 bags to the dump well before it closed at 4pm.

The FTSE100 closed at a new high, following its usual pattern of closing little moved after earlier high points. BT.A and IMB continue to fall without reason, as far as I can see.

Enjoy the weekend

Q3 reporting S&P500 companies went from 55% to 81% in the last week. The projected earnings rise for the lot went from 4.7% to 5.9%. That was better than I expected, probably thanks to those bumper tech stock beats. It still does not make up for the hatchet job on forecasts in the last month but it makes it look more like a slowdown than a slide into recession. But what of further down the line? In the last week, the Q4 forecast has dropped again from +10.7% to +10.4% and FY 2018 has also dropped again from +11.4% to +11.0%. They are strong numbers but trending weaker, stretching valuations. The rolling 12-month forward P/E has risen another point to 18.0, as has the trailing P/E to 22.3. The question for the next 3 months is will they suffer the same hatchet job that Q3 numbers had in the last 3 months? Or, put another way, can tech stocks keep compensating for near recessionary trends elsewhere? The ongoing rise in the market is increasingly narrowly driven, making it more susceptible to a sudden reversal.

Thanks for the link, Skinny, although there are some odd numbers in there and the sentiment seems a bit cautious. I'd be more bullish - if recession is coming, BEG is one to have. I actually had to make a tiny top slice as it went up again today. It's just getting too heavy in my portfolio, having done well so far. I bought an initial small stake in CNA with the proceeds. That should help my income a bit more.

BEG was one of a several modest risers that helped me to a bumper day but the trading update from HAT was the driver. I was up 1.2% and my YTD is up to a new high of +5.8%.

It's been another cool murky grey sort of day with a high of 10.6C. Further north, Spadeadam peaked at 7C and in Scotland Glenogle only managed 5C.

Reasonable week overall with everything gaining slightly. SIPP +0.28%, pot + 1.89% and the Virgin ISA +1.03% taking the YTD figures to +4.79%, +14.70% & +8.23% - just a pity the biggest one is the smallest gain!

Out visiting friends tomorrow and having the family round on Sunday after tennis.

Enjoy your weekends.

Enjoy your weekend.

Meteociel are now forecasting snow for Morocco and Algeria, as well as France and Spain. This would be highly unusual for November. It is only a forecast but Meteociel are a lot better than some with their medium term forecasts.
