Morning All.

Turned a bit milder over night, but haven't put the jumper away yet!

Aleman, I'm just glad we have been stocking up with logs, the wood burner has been going most evenings and I suspect it won't be long before we start firing it up earlier in the day!

This is a lovely property we admire every time we go past on the river but sadly can't stretch to that!

What confuses me on this power supply thing is that we have a potential problem because we are closing down all our coal generation capacity to conform with EU directives yet Germany having shut down all its nuclear plants post Fukushima has increased coal generation to 40%. Presumably EU directives don't apply to Germany??

I'm down -0.481% on teh day today (FTSE100 -0.240%).

Worst falls: MARS -3.43%, BA. -3.42% and KGF -3.13%.

Best rises: AZN +1.23%, DGE +0.82% and RDSB +0.81%.

Funny how we always start up and then fall back. Vodafone report tomorrow. Might stier things up a bit.

-2°C this morning. About +4°C this afternoon.

-0.84% for the Folio, [FTSE250 -1.16%].

Worst value fallers : BA -3.4%, VANL -13.3%, GVC -2.1%, UPGS -5.9%, KCOM -2.9%.

Highest value riser : CLIG +1.5%

BA. concerns about Saudi arrests will impact defence contracts.
A relatively small Folio holding in VANL still pulls me down as the unhappy former founder and 20% shareholder has launched a bid to oust current management. Another IPO joining the list of underachieving recent floatations..

No need to look at temperatures today it was just plain cold.

The 250 and 100 seem to be struggling to stay clear of their 200-day averages, after they both broke their steep uptrends in the summer. Besides their recent fall, weakening momentum is seen as the 200-day catching the 50-day up. They could do with a quick bounce to lift them clear again as computers will be programmed to sell if the 50-day falls through the 200-day. Is that going to come in the current climate?

You sort of beat me to it with the charts, Skinny. More from me later.

I'm down 0.6% after starting up. The FTSE 250 was down 1.2% so there was a lot of selling in UK stocks, as opposed to a 0.2% fall in the international FTSE100. Checking sectors showed oil, commodities and a several defensive sectors (e.g. food and drink) were up. The rest were all down, especially cyclicals. This was a day when the market worried about economic slowdown.

A hint of sun at the off but then grey, dry and wintery cold. Fortunately the wind eased. 6.7C high after 1.2C last night and now back to 4.0C. Lots of places in the UK had lower lows and lower highs than here, even in the Midlands and South.

Electrical grid demand is deep into the amber area, i.e. it is well beyond the generating capability of the UK's reliable wood, fossil and nuclear. It will probably go into the red in the next hour or two when demand peaks. This is not the end of the world in the short term. It can be made up by a mix of wind, solar, hydro and imports. But it is worrying when it is already happening in mid-November and a cold winter is being predicted due colder than normal weather all around the Northern hemisphere that is seeing a lot of cold and snow records broken. Wind and Hydro are already running at over 50%. Solar doesn't help at night. What are the the odds we become extreely dependent on EU imports just as we get embroiled in soured Brexit relations with the EU?

The gas grid is experiencing high demand too. I need to research what it's capacity is.

My SIPP finished down 0.54% - "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!"

After a warm feeling bright day, spent clearing leaves in a T shirt, it seems to have dropped quickly in the last couple of hours 6°C.

The downward spiral continues, SIPP -0.44% SSE, ZOO & NG. and the pot -0.71% RR., AMS & MACF

And from a business point of view, I'm no longer convinced we will see many of the promised projects this side of the New Year, and that's putting a dampener on this years excellent performance to date.

Seems Merkel is still trying to put a coalition together in Germany.
She has it seems until Thursday to get an agreement in principle, if she does not get that agreement then another German election looms possible.
An opinion poll a few days ago says that popularity for a coalition is falling particularly with Green party supporters. 76% a month ago to 55% now.

The second thing of note is that there has been a very large (60,000 people) nationalist rally in Warsaw. Given that Warsaw is not a huge city this is significant.

Thirdly there seems to be rising discontent against Poroshenko the current president of Ukraine, corruption being the motivator, the Femen have become active, Shakashvilli has given a speech and there is the beginning of a large Maidan tent encampment in Kyiv.

BP up a tad at the present time.

With all the utility bashing going on, BP. now sits proudly as my biggest individual holding in the SIPP and is at or about a 5-year high so I'm tempted to top slice.

There's just been an intresting interview with John Redwood on the BBC. He said he did not understand why the big business interests that were worried about a transitional deal were scared of WTO rules. He said they were wrong about the ERM (it caused a recession), they were wrong about joining the Euro (the City of London has flourished), and they are wrong about the need for a transitional deal. He says the UK should just get on and plan to do business under WTO rules now that a transitional agreement looks unlikely.

There seems to be a view amongst many out there that WTO rules are not a problem yet that goes underreported as the Big Scare continues.

I see we've had our first dusting of snow on Yorkshire hills and it is expected to spread further south next weekend.

thanks Hyden, CNA and BT.A are my biggest holdings and it is they that account for the fall, both looking weak again today sadly.
+15.92% is impressive !

Morning all, I finished Friday at -2.20% for the week. Friday marks 6 'Red' days in a row, and has reduced my YTD to +15.92%. Today is also looking Red.

A reasonable weekend all in all. Weather-wise, Sunday was the best day with clear blue skies. A visit to a local micro brewery which had put on a beer festival was the highlight for me. I sampled a few, Old Thomas Bell at 7% was the strongest.

7 consecutive weeks sounds quite a fall wllm, I hope your portfolio enjoys a bumper Santa Rally this year to compensate. :-)

Poor results from Carr's Milling and Ultra Electronics and an absolute stinker from Fishing Republic which has seen their CEO replaced. The last one saw LfL go from +16% in the first 9 months to -19% in October.

There are lots of worrying reports coming from Saudi of heightened tensions and military preparations.
