It says something that this was posted on a popular blog of a retired NW Passage captain. What does it say if an old hand who dealt with ice where it is supposed to be melting most quickly is sceptical of global warming?

You're welcome.

Cold and snow was contained in Scotland overnight but is expected to move further south tonight. The consensus seems to be that it will continue to edge colder and snowier over the next couple of weeks, extending to snow on Northern hills and Welsh mountains. Significant snow is forecasted for the Scottish Highlands on Wednesday night as a cold front passes through. Odds are still short for a white Christmas at around 5/1 for most of England and around 2/1 across Scotland.

Good Morning.

A bit of a shock after a couple of days away - my SIPP finished down 1.32% on the week and is now +12.25% YTD - it looks to be mainly down to SSE,NG. and WJG - I should have sold the lot!

A very pleasant wander around Rye on Thursday and Hastings yesterday - the latter mainly shopping in Debenhams!!!

Funny old week for me on the markets. Most days moving in opposite direction to FTSE. I guess I am very low Financials/Commodities which must be half index. Net result marginally up on the week in the pot and down in the SIPP. YTD 18.9 and 23.8.

A good week for clearing up the garden for the winter. Treated myself to a leaf blower which I have always regarded as a bit naff but is actually a good bit of kit.Clears drive of leaves in about a quarter of the time of a rake. Having laid 40 tonnes of limestone chippings have suddenly become very houseproud.

Brexit negotiations become ever more farcical. EU position seems to be " It is impossible for us to change any of our positions, as would need all 27 to agree, which is impossible, so the only way forward is for you to agree to all of our demands" They believe if they behave this way we will change our minds, have another referendum and stay. They have form. Worked with Ireland,Denmark and France before. Not helped by a Quisling Labour Party, BBC and sections of the Press.

+0.3% for me. BEG managed another rise even if did come off the boil a bit in the last 10 minutes. That takes my YTD to another new high of +7.0%, from 5.8% last week. That's a good couple of weeks with a couple of ex-dividends thrown in for good measure. I wonder how long I can keep it up.

I was going to go to the gym but the sun tempted me into another bike ride. Even though today's 10.4C high made it warmer than Wednesday's ride, it felt markedly cooler thanks to a damp cold wind and more watery sun. The pleasure was further aggravated by the more comfortable swapped seat constantly slipping, although the further inflated tyres did away with a bit of rolling resistance. I enjoyed it but was glad to get home again. As it clouded over into late afternoon, the weather took on a wintery feel. I think it's the damp feel to the wind since it is not that cold yet but clearly some cold is coming. It was -4C, 80mph wind and light snow on Ben Nevis this morning. If you look at this webcan still of glencoe, you can see the snow cover is thin but drifting in place.

Keep warm and dry and have a good weekend.

Not a great week for my lot. SIPP -0.81%, pot -1.64%! and the Virgin ISA -1.21% so YTD figures now +3.92%, +12.82% and +7.02%

Transplanting a small Rowan tree tomorrow which hasn't been doing well outside work so it's off to the woods. It's a yellow berry variety planted some years ago in memory of one of my brothers so we really want to nurture it and give it the best chance.

Rain tomorrow afternoon but Sunday looks OK.

Enjoy your weekends

FTSE100 chart is starting to look very dodgy. Possible double top with rises apparently getting weaker. Looks like a possible change of channel. 200-day average topping out and 50-day average looking like it might drop through it on any further weakness - which is usually a recipe for at least a correction. It really does not look nice at all. I'll post it later if I get some time.

SIPP value is down quite a bit this week even after this months contribution has gone in. Not really looking forward to the figures!

Morning All.

Agree ISAT looks interesting and I'm very tempted, but not a lot of cash hanging around in the SIPP at the moment. Looking to make a few changes but prices aren't really lending themselves to selling on those for the time being. I could raise a bit by selling the other half of my little play with ZOO, but that seems a shame!

Had a flip through ISAT financials last night and couldnt see anything too alarming so added to POT/SIPP. Probably kiss of death. I guess divi cover is minimal and high debt level but mainly long term and doesn't come up for renewal until 22/24.Ongoing cash flow good although all being reinvested. Excellent geographical spread. Wonder why it is so out of favour?

A terrible day for the Portfolio, -0.99% amidst a sea of red. Fallers outpace risers by a ratio of 4:1. ISAT was easily the worst value faller. The one bright spot was APF which put out a cracking trading statement, prompting a healthy rise in the share price. :-)

I have reduced my positions in a number of stocks today, increasing my cash holdings by a further 4 percentage points, or thereabouts. Most of the sales have been at the lower end of my yield curve so my income hasn't suffered much and is still sufficient to keep a roof over my head, should I have cause to draw on it. :-)

Weather-wise it was dull with light afternoon rain and a couple of brief bright spots. Very mild with temperatures reaching into the lows teens.

I'm down -0.635% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.606%).

Worst falls: BLT -3.18%, TW. -2.89% and NG. -2.60%.

Best rises: VOD +2.73%, MARS +0.73% and ADM +0.43%.

Predictably NG. fell on its results. Dividend up, of course. BP. and GSK both went XD and fell appropriately, although GSK did have a rebound earlier in the day. VOD reacted well to news of a tie up with a fibre optic network company.

+2°C first thing, with a hint of drizzle from the cloud cover. Up to about +8°C seems to have been the best, although the sun did come out mid-morning.

Nice to see ZOO having its next upward surge, but sadly everything else is well down giving the SIPP it's worst day for some considerable time.
