When I dyed carpet yarn, we used big scissors to make up samples for colour assessment. I still have the V-shaped scar where we used to cut a close tuft and overshoot sometimes when the scissors were blunt. All the dyers had the same scar! It never bled loads but it used to sting a lot, hitting the same spot about every 6 months. Eventually we started using computers and got shears. They did not go as deep or produce scars but I can tell you they sting, too!

7C,damp and cloudy. Felt warm walking south and cold walking north.

Morning all, a few bright spots amidst a sea of Red.

The weather isn't faring much better with heavy cloud overhead and the prospect of showers later.

Good Morning.

Up in London yesterday afternoon - London Bridge station is quite an achievement!

My SIPP finished down £7.62p

I'm tempted to unwrap my banana plant as the weather looks set for double digits for a few days.

Blueliner - I did similar with a stanley knife some years ago - for me it was the shock of the amount of blood.

Looks like yet another down day beckons, last positive day for the SIPP was 6th November. Really thought BDEV could have saved the day today.

Morning All.

Ouch regarding the finger blueliner, do you need a pair of those special rounded end scissors? :-)

Nice update from BDEV with a pleasant divi due shortly!

Another fall ,-0.26%, 6th day in a row. 1st Nov was the last meaningful up day. [FTSE250 +0.3%]
Tried to slice off the top of a finger with sharp scissors which mean't a visit to Urgent Care/Walk In centre for a dressing to staunch the blood flow.. Recent experience with our NHS has been very positive.

Worst value fallers : ASY -6.4%, BLT -2.5%, ISAT -3.2%, IGR -1%.
Highest value risers : GVC +2.25, VOD +5.1%, NAH +3.9%, BEZ +1.6%.

Folio highflyer ASY Half Year figures were decent enough on all metrics, an affordable yield of 4.4%, with net funds 7.6% of m/cap. However it was sharply marked down on just 3000 sells.

A better day with sun breaking through, surprised the forecasters I think.

+0.22% today with ICP counting for more than the entire day's rise. My early morning top-slice proved well timed. It was rather more than a top-slice actually, as I have reduced my holding by almost half. It has been a run-away success for me, 4-bag in the space of 5 and a half years. :-) I am thinking the cash will be re-invested into the collection of out-of-favour large-caps once I feel it is safe to step back into the water.

VED is today's worst value faller and given the sea of red across my portfolio, it has plenty of company.

I managed 39 miles on the bike today but it was hard work. Mostly cloudy and when blessed with a touch of blue sky at lunchtime, the sun still struggled and never really made an appearance. It was quite mild at 10 degrees though. :-)

I'm up +0.072% on teh day today (FTSE100 -0.010%).

Best rises: TSCO +6.24%, VOD +5.12% and INDV +1.65%.

Worst falls: RIO -2.89%, BLT -2.49% and TATE -1.90%.

Nice rises from Tesco and Vodafone today. Don't know what that hiatus mid afternoon was all about. Just got an offer of a price reduction from BT which I have taken up.

+5°C and cloudy this morning. The sun tried to break trhough, but never quite made it.

250 up 0.3% but AIM and Smallcaps are down about 0.5%. A bigger bounce for the 250 would have inspired more confidence. It remains too near to it's 200-day, as does the 100 which didn't move much.

+0.5% for me. A modest rise for BEG again amongst a mixture.

4.2C overnight and warmed into a dawn of about 9C so felt very mild. 13.5C this afternoon. No sun but no wind or rain either and bright at times so much better than we could be having.

Rotten start to the week for me. Managed to lose 2% in two days. Mainly ZOO returning from the stratosphere but everything else felt the need to join in.I was so upset I went out and bought a Brushcutter/Strimmer to cheer myself up!

CPI 2.8%. RPI 4.0%. RPIH (excl mortg int.) +4.2%. While these numbers are not great, the rise in the second half is weaker than the first over the period measured and producer prices showed significant falls. It looks like the annualised figures will ease from here and the rate rise was probably not necessary.

With wage rises looking set to rise slightly, the wage squeeze that has been affecting the UK economy should also ease slightly from here. The £ fell slightly on this news - $1.3085, Euro 1.117.

This is all quite good news but economic momentum in the UK seems to be slowing. I think it will need a bit more than this to speed things up again but EU growth has been strong lately and houseprice growth picked up slightly last month. I still think recession is coming but I retain the hope that it could be a shallow one. What will politicians do next?
