02/9/2016 16:54 | The managed funds and the Virgin ISA were the weak links this week, but maybe they'll catch up after todays stonking rises! Lovely rise for the individual shares in the SIPP, around +2% today but the funds pulled everything down to a gain on the week of just +0.43% taking the YTD to +11.42% and I'm happy with that. The pot (devoid of managed funds) managed +2.34% on the week and is now starting to look a bit healthier at +4.66% YTD. The Virgin ISA was a let down again, falling -0.38% on the week but at least it is still +4.26% YTD. Must admit Branson isn't my hero of late. We have the Grandkids from tomorrow afternoon through to Sunday lunchtime which will be lovely but also hard work! Enjoy your weekends. MrP | mrphil
02/9/2016 16:17 | Don't want to speak too soon, but it looks like the gains have held, and more! It's the larger holdings bringing in the money so I guess that suggests the rises are pretty much across the board. | mrphil
02/9/2016 15:43 | Not at all impressed with this Doctors strike, they just should not do it full stop. Maybe as we pay for them, we should all be given full details of the package on offer and let us decide whether or not it is fair and reasonable. By going on strike yet again, they will lose any public sympathy they had, and quite rightly so. Apart from the thousands of people that will be put under unnecessary stress and discomfort, I wonder how many people will actually die as a result of their selfish action? If they are genuinely doing the job to make that difference they speak about, then just get on with it, but if it really is about their own money and reward then if they don't like it, go and get another job! If it's really that bad then they won't be able to fill the vacancies until they improve the package. | mrphil
02/9/2016 10:43 | SIPP currently up 0.5% on the day, wonder if that will hold? | mrphil
02/9/2016 10:36 | Just seen our first squirrel in the garden. Seems unusual to take so long (moved in a year ago this weekend) but we did see a kestrel eating a mouse on our terrace a couple of months back and we regularly find piles of feathers, too, so, maybe not the safest place for smaller mammals! | aleman
02/9/2016 09:30 | GBP Construction PMI 49.2 46.6 45.9 | skinny
02/9/2016 09:23 | Aleman, my entry in the PMI report must certainly have helped! ;-) | mrphil
02/9/2016 09:12 | Was that you responsible for the record-equalling jump in the UK manufacturing PMI, MrP? I did not know you had so much clout. :-) I'm glad to hear that business is going well for you. | aleman
02/9/2016 08:15 | Morning All. Usual 2/7 for me this week, and I knew one of those! Another warm day here too at 23.2°C and only fell to 14.7°C last night. Not only did we have our fish supper on board yesterday evening but we even went for a little cruise along Meon Foreshore towards Lee On Solent where we had sat down for lunch earlier in the day with the grandkids. Unless something drastic happens today, it looks like being another fall for the investments this week, so possibly the end of the good run we have had? Strange that it coincides with another good month for the business with orders so far this year already above the whole of last year. | mrphil
02/9/2016 06:13 | Good Morning. 6/7. | skinny
01/9/2016 17:55 | My SIPP finished down 0.06%. It looks like the party may be over for now at SXX - perhaps I should have sold a few. Another warm, sunny day @23°C. | skinny
01/9/2016 17:39 | I'm down just -0.126% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.526%). Worst falls: VOD -2.83%, GSK -2.41% and RDSB -2.16%. Best rises: TW. +2.67%, LLOY +2.17% and BLND +1.58%. Surprising that my XD shares (BLT and CLLN) don't feature in the biggest falls. Another of those funny old days. 248 required to win the 4th ODI. Ought not to be a problem. DF | deanforester
01/9/2016 17:00 | Tale of two halves today, with the pot managing +0.44% thanks to AMS, LLOY & FFY but the SIPP suffered again to the tune of -0.24% due to fairly big falls from GSK, BP. and a little from NG. Off down the boat shortly for Fish & salad on board then either a quick run up the river or maybe a row in the dinghy. | mrphil
01/9/2016 16:34 | Looks like another day that started promising and ended red :-( | mrphil
01/9/2016 10:24 | Drifting down a bit this week. Probably due to slighty stronger £. MCLS results dull but there is deflation in food and some stuff it sells so seems to be doing okay. Meanwhile it is throwing off lots of cash and the large number of Coop stores it has bought are all larger on average so the company has got a bit bigger and this update was not affected yet by the expansion. They seem to be planning to cram more into each store - newagent, post office, Amazon parcel drops, food and drink, better quality impulse buys. I think they are probably going the right direction. The shares are up a bit for me but still seem good value and carry a big dividend so I'm not inclined to take any profit just yet. Went to Filey and Scarborough yesterday. My all-time favourite chippy seems to have changed hands and become disappointingly average. Maybe we were just unlucky but we ate in pleasant sunshine with a nice view and the kids enjoyed. Scarborough's busy South Bay seems as tacky as ever but the North Bay has been rejuvenated after decades of neglect and made for a pleasant day. There was plenty of choice in what to do and it seemed good value all round. | aleman
01/9/2016 09:10 | Morning, Quiet week so far, -0.175% for Tues/Wed. HSBA showing the way, up another +2.5% this morning. Positive update yesterday from IGR, firing on all cylinders, a continued hold for the remainder in the Folio. MCLS updated quarterly this morning, LFL down, Revenue up, little change, another hold. Watched first two episodes of 'Victoria', interesting enough to record the series. | blueliner
01/9/2016 08:31 | Morning All. I won't spoil your enjoyment of DCI Banks then Skinny, but I thought it was as good as ever! "One of Us" is certainly keeping us in suspense, although I would have thought the journalists at the gate may have become slightly interested when a digger started digging a dirty great hole to bury a 4x4! Certainly turning out to be a tangled web. We still managed 22.8°C yesterday and it stayed fairly bright. Slightly cooler at 11.3°C overnight but another bright start this morning. Meeting the grandchildren at the beach for lunch today, last Thursday visit before grandson starts school next week so it's all change from here. Will still be nice having the granddaughter every Thursday morning but I will miss the little chap! Positive start for the SIPP this morning but early days. | mrphil
01/9/2016 07:44 | Good Morning. My SIPP finished down 0.03%. I;ve recorded DCI Banks and used 'the slot' to watch the second part of 'One of us', where the plot line becomes more complicated. REDD update seems quite good. | skinny
31/8/2016 17:56 | Looked fairly promising early on, but turned down as the afternoon progressed. SIPP -0.1% DX., BP. & NG. and the pot -0.03% AMS, RDSB & VER Log splitting on the cards for this evening to get the log store looking healthier ready for the cooler evenings. New series of DCI Banks after that! | mrphil
31/8/2016 17:44 | I'm down -0.474% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.576%). Worst falls: BLT -4.86%, CLLN -4.41% and S32 -3.08%. Best rises: TSCO +1.87%, SGRO +1.48% and MARS +1.39%. Bad day for the miners again. Not a bad day, with about 7/10ths cloud and a brisk wind. I have walked to the Village twice today. A different set of dog walkers in the afternoon. DF | deanforester
31/8/2016 14:24 | Sign of the times I guess | mrphil
31/8/2016 09:00 | Interesting with all those feeds down yesterday, the same day as Lloyds had problems with their Lloydslink online system. A coincidence? We had a lovely day yesterday with a high of 24°C followed by a crisp low of 11.6°C last night after a lovely hour and a half of tennis. Bright start this morning but the cloud has now arrived. | mrphil
31/8/2016 08:49 | Not sure what happened yesterday, with feeds down, but seemed to be a modest loss. That already seems to have been recovered this morning. We had a warm day, around 25C. Cloudier this morning. | aleman |
