His comments were that it was better to go, rather than do an Edward Heath, when every time he opened his mouth there would be multiple searches for hidden meanings.

I can see his point.

Shares magazine are going fully digital shortly, I don't like the idea of having to be hunched over a screen to read it every week. Give me something that comes through the letterbox I can hold and read sunk in comfortable chair anytime. Think I'm fighting a losing battle against the flow. Just the same as I try to avoid catch up watching TV programmes via iplayer etc.

Cameron, not impressed and fast becoming a historical footnote, on the plus side remembered for what?
At least Gordon Brown gave tax breaks to the micro breweries.

Disappointed in Cameron, first the way he carried on over Brexit and now bottling out completely!

I'm down -1.147% on the day today (FTSE100 -1.122%).

Worst falls: MKS -5.06%, LLOY -3.95% and LGEN -2.69%.

Best rises: AZN +0.81%, VOD +0.50% and RB. +0.28%.

Funny old day with a mildish start at +12°C and a lot of cloud, but it was +23°C this afternoon. Only +8°C yesterday morning.

I see that David Cameron has decided to resign from his seat as an MP.

Putting our Iboost+ unit to the test at the moment. It diverted around 1.5kwh to the immersion heater yesterday which was just about enough to top up the hot water tank. I've switched the boiler to hot water and evenings only to see how we get on. Must be saving us something!

It was around 23°C at lunchtime and felt very hot when the sun came out briefly, but it's been pretty grey for most of the afternoon and almost looks like rain although we aren't due any.

Ripper Street tonight, clashing with Cold Feet which we need to iPlayer.

Rough day again for me, aggravated by the £ rising a touch. -1.5%.

Can't tell you the high for today. It's still rising after a chilly morning. Currently 24.2C and fairly cloudy so looks set to be warm tonight. That's the central heating off again for a while!

Ummm, that was a shocker of a day. SIPP -1.64% CRX, LLOY & BRCI/SSE and the pot -1.14% LLOY, LGEN & SGC

Added Fundsmith Equity Fund to the pile today, looks to have a decent long term record.

Great to hear the produce is starting to reward you Aleman! We had beans, carrots, strawberries, raspberries, apples and a couple of blueberries from the garden yesterday!

Awful start for the SIPP this morning :-(

I'm back after a few days at a conference in Sheffield. Catching up on things.

I'm down -1.82% on the week (FTSE100 -1.71%) but up +10.30% YTD (FTSE100 +8.56% and HIX +11.56%).

Worst falls today: MARS -3.09%, TW. -2.99% and TSCO -2.95%.

Best rises today (only 3 rose): LLOY +0.76%, S32 +0.40% and BLT +0.20%.

PSON had a big fall yesterday, not reflected in the above. I've not been able to keep up to date during the week, except to record end of day prices.

Some light rain on the journey home today, but otherwise the weather has been good during the week. Quite hot, in fact. Now for the weekend. Enjoy it.

Have to make a lot of adjustments for silly closing prices today as I was away from the screen at 4:30. It looks like I'm down 0.6% today which is pretty good when the main indices look to be down over twice that. YTD is now +16.9%.

High today 22.2C after 13.0C last night. The strengthening wind is bringing yet more leaves down. Our great poplar is already down to only about 1/5th cover. It seems odd to see a bare tree so early.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

Successful week. SIPP +1.04% now +12.53% YTD and a new all time high, pot +0.85% now +5.54% YTD and the Virgin ISA +0.86% and now +5.12% YTD

Have to admit that the managed funds in the SIPP are outperforming the individual shares so far this year which isn't normally the case.

Planned boat trip tomorrow has been shelved due to the weather, need to rethink our plans.

Enjoy your weekends, and stay clear of the showers!

Morning all.

A pleasant day yesterday with a high of 21.9°C and a cooler 15.8°C last night with some refreshing rain. Managed to get the new iBoost+ unit installed last night but had to reverse the meter clamp to check the system as there was obviously no solar being generated by then. Just need some more of that lovely sunshine so we can see if the immersion heater actually works as I don't think we have ever used it in 18 years!

FUM opening slightly higher again this morning :-)

Football excepted, I'm still not watching TV as per the last two months. We're working our way slowly through our recroded backlog. We're now up to stuff recorded at the beginning of February.

Well done. NrP. Are you actually having a go at catching me. -0.2% today, I reckon.

One of the yellow tomatoes is turning orangey. Fingers crossed they will be red, after all. Would like to see a few more turning yellow, now!

More days like today please! SIPP +1.55% CRX, FUM & BRCI and the pot an amazing +2.78% thanks to AIEA, LLOY & CRX

Need to fit my newly acquired iBoost+ this evening to direct unused generated power from the solar pv straight to the immersion heater. Given up waiting for someone to sort out the solar thermal which has been switched off for over a year now. Sounds like there were all sorts of problems with the systems overheating once they had got the water tank up to temperature. Ours was made worse by the fact it was over-specified in the first place with two arrays when one would have been sufficient. Very frustrating as I'm happy to pay someone to sort it out properly but it seems nobody wants to touch it these days.

Catch up on some recorded programs tonight, Ripper Street and DCI Banks. Watched Our Girl last night which was very good but also quite horrible as you know it's so close to the truth. Why do we bother sending our people to these places?

Aleman, you're really getting into this gardening lark aren't you?! Our front lawn is starting to get buried under big yellow leaves from our lime tree, they look lovely as they come down and do make an attractive yellow carpet although it obviously doesn't do the lawn any good if you leave them there for too long.

FUM is really going for it and so is CRX today!

I've looked at AIEA many times but always worried about severe cyclicality of the carpet industry. I clearly missed out on the big gain over the last couple of years so well done, MrP, but I would be cautious that the good times in the carpet industry usually only last a couple of years before things turn down again.

It was hard to sleep last night as it was over 20C at bedtime. Not so bad this morning with a 16.0C low. Cloudy start.

I mowed the bottom half of the lawn last night to shift the build up of leaves as much as cut the grass. Overnight, the great poplar has dumped so many leaves it looks just the same. It's already dropped about half its leaves, I presume due to the very dry July and August.
