Good Morning.

My SIPP finished down 0.42% - largely due to the aforementioned CRAW -43.50%.

A refreshing 0/7.

This is how to run a butchers. 10,000 pork pies per week sold from one shop and online sales. You'd think CRAW would just copy them.

+0.09% for the Folio [ FTSE 250 +0.69% ]

Highest value risers : BRSN +1.6%, HAYT +4%[Hinckley Point uplift?], PHNX +1.4%, HSBA +1.8%, BLT +2.1%.

Worst value fallers : SDV -2.6%, IRV -2.5%[xd], IGR -1.7%, STAB -3%[xd].

Some pretty lame excuses being served up by CRAW in this mornings trading update. It would seem that Supermarket competition is the main threat, bought some anyway after the 40% fall, & probably will live to regret it.
Overcast until midday again. Max temp 26C.

The MPC and all monetary authorities globally have lost all credibility in my opinion. Its all going to end badly thats for sure. Stocks, gold, property, nice suit, art. Just dont own large amounts of cash.

I'm up +0.660% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.854%).

Best rises: TSCO +4.92%, INDV +3.31% and DGE +2.15%.

Worst falls: MKS -2.61%, SMDS -0.71% and BLND -0.64%.

I see that the MPC are talking of further cuts in Bank rate. They must be out of their tiny little minds. Whatever posesses them?

Interesting article, DF. Thanks.

-0.1%.

Sunny day after a misty morning. 24.3C after 13.7C. Got a bit sticky in the garden removing some invasive 3 or 4 inch/20 foot+ ashes from the hedge. Hope to be doing a bit more cutting back in days to come and adding to the bonfire night stockpile.

That's better, SIPP managed +0.40% thanks to top risers FUM, RSA & AV. and the pot edged ahead by +0.21% thanks to LGEN, MACF & SGC

Can't see much on the box tonight so a chance to catch up on some recorded programs and maybe iPlayer Victoria as I think we'll probably enjoy that but it always clashes with other things.

Round here, there is an excess of demand over supply of homes, helped by falling mortgage rates. After QE drove rates down, demand increased, helped a little by wages starting to rise slighty again. It's taken 3 years of falling rates and higher volumes to take out a backlog of supply. This now means prices have risen markedly for a year or two but lack of supply means transactional volumes are down by about 1/4 on last year after 3 years of rising volumes that helped the economy.

Houses coming into the market are selling quickly but there are fewer of them so business is poor if you are an estate agent. This showed in the recent employment numbers, which was a very mixed bag by sector - with real estate and some private sectors weak while government/defence and other arty farty stuff was strong. This possibly indicated looming recession as government spending looks like exceeding taxation growth again so debt could rise again (!) and we could see yet more tax rises.

So, the question is whether this housing weakness will spread into other parts of the economy and create recession or will supply increase as prices rise? I reckon the former. We're due a recession even if the last upturn was weak. The USA looks to have been in recession a while, despite what government numbers say (auto sales have been falling for a year despite recklessly loose auto credit) and the UK would probably also be in recession if it were not for extraordinary levels of immigration. Lots of UK corporate warnings over weather, football and Brexit are probably just a normal cyclical slowdown. The companies affected will probably cut back and affect other companies not consumer related. Politicians, economists and directors always deny it until it smacks them in the face so this time is probably no different.

You might like to read this article on the subject of low or negative interest rates:

There is a lot of good sense there and the implications for pension funds are obvious.

"After the retailer’s app has been downloaded, VLC will be able to offer a guide to the store, helping shoppers to locate items on their shopping list down to an accuracy of 30cm.".

So does that sound the death knell for those gormless idiots who work in some DIY stores?

Brexit seems to be getting the blame for a lot of things which is very convenient for any business seeing a downturn. Not sure we are eating any less meat because of it, and properties are selling around here and at decent prices, but maybe CRAW & CWD are right?!

The SIPP has recovered a little and is currently £14.23 up on the day so all is not lost!

I was doing so well post BREXIT vote, however, last couple weeks have undone all the good work with CWD and TALK doing the damage. Not sure why TALK is getting trashed.

Morning All.

Well none of my lot are going xd today, but I'm still down!

Starting to eye up SPD after recent falls, seems to be running at a pretty low p/e at the moment.

I'm down -0.036% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.115%).

Worst falls: TW. -6.62%, MARS and MKS, both -2.13%.
Best rises: S32 +4.30%, ADM and AZN, both +1.75%.

Funny oscillations in the market again. Maybe it's Juncker that is the problem, rather than Carney.

Rather cooler at 22.7C but didn't feel it so much as it was mostly sunny.

Have been looking recently as to whether to continue holding MACF as it seems to have lost it's spark of late. Maybe should have been more decisive after today's fall! Pot managed +0.03% thanks to AMS, LLOY & RR. but the SIPP suffered -0.24% due mainly to MACF but also FUM & PEW continuing the weeks downward trajectory.

Lots of sunshine this afternoon, lovely having lunch on the balcony and the iBoost+ had topped up the water tank by lunchtime so have now turned off the boiler completely to see what happens.

DCI Banks this evening which we will record to watch Our Girl. Can then fast forward through the adverts!

Usual issues:

UK born people working in the UK increased by 253,000 to 26.25 million

non-UK born people working in the UK increased by 367,000 to 5.40 million

There has been a big rise in self-employment. Last time this happened, there was a TV program accusing the government of pushing unemployed into barely employed with working benefits to manipulate the figures

employees increased by 356,000 to 26.82 million (84.4% of all people in work)

self-employed people increased by 224,000 to 4.76 million (15.0% of all people in work)

Less usual issues:

Labour disputes rising.
Redundancies rising.
Employment growth slowing - still faster than GDP so GDP per worker/capita falling?.
Claimant count rising.

Looks like recession could be looming to me. The fall in sterling might just mean it comes a few months later.

Skinny, I picked up a chip on the windscreen of the XF a couple of weeks back and they couldn't repair it so a new screen went in - complete with heating elements, rain sensor etc!

The windscreen stone chip that I picked a day or so before going away, has in the interim become a foot long crack.
