22/8/2016 10:10 | Well that's a sizeable beast! | mrphil
21/8/2016 22:14 | Plenty of wind here as well. Having the eaves replaced starting tomorrow, the proverbial soffit and facias plus roof felt have taken a battering over the years. The sparrows will have to find somewhere else to commune. Notts County Cricket Club batting let them down in the T20 semi finals at Edgbaston yesterday v Northamptonshire, (who went on to win the final), capping a very disappointing season with only one win so far in the County Championship game. Relegation to Div 2 seems unavoidable. Just down -0.07% on the week, so YTD little changed @ +10.95%. | blueliner
21/8/2016 15:46 | Er, only 2 sunflowers left today. Bigger than I thought, though. Small ones standing are 8 foot. Tall ones must have been about 11 foot. Of our 3 ears of corn, 2 are on a plant that blew over. Looks like it might still be alive, though. Not much left for all the effort of planting 23 corn and 16 sunflowers! | aleman
20/8/2016 17:00 | And the second largest sunflower gone. They were both 9 footers and had outgrown their stakes. 3 7-footers left from 16 planted. | aleman
20/8/2016 16:19 | Last week, the tomatoes blew all over the place after I believed the forecast that the wind would ease and did not tie them up more. We lost a large tree branch, too. Today, they said the 20 mph wind would ease from lunch. I tied them up more after they blew about this morning. They are okay but we just lost our largest sunflower and our trees look like they might see more damage. Wind looks to have lifted to about 40mph rather than dropping to 10-15 as forecasted. I've certainly got a load more apples and small branches to pick up before mowing the grass! | aleman
20/8/2016 10:45 | Good Morning. My SIPP finished down 0.05%, -0.29% on the week and is +7.07% YTD. Wet and squally this morning - plenty of fuchsia blooms blowing around outside and the hanging baskets resemble carousels! Enjoy your weekend. | skinny
19/8/2016 18:25 | Looking good, Aleman. I'm down -0.129% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.146%) and down -1.00% on the week (FTSE100 -0.83%). I'm up +11.73% YTD (FTSE100 +9.88% and HIX +12.55%). Worst falls: S32 -3.28%, TW. -2.54% and BLT -2.05%. Best rises: WMH +3.89%, LLOY +2.54% and BATS +0.80%. A bit of a switchback this week. Miners up for 2 days, miners down, miners up and miners down today. The expression "looking for direction" comes to mind, as does headless chickens. The rain has just moved away, having been very light until after lunch. We have a BBQ on Sunday afternoon, so I hope that it has all cleared away by then. Have a good weekend. DF | deanforester
19/8/2016 18:10 | +0.2% today. YTD +17.8%. Cool day. Light rain started mid-afternoon. Very welcome. Family birthday party tonight but taking kids so won't be there long. Have a good weekend, all. | aleman
19/8/2016 17:02 | Well the individual shares in the SIPP actually held their own this week but out of 17 managed funds, only three rose on the week with all the rest falling. That means all three investments fell on the week as follows:- SIPP -0.20%, pot -0.38% and the Virgin ISA -0.80% taking the YTD figures to; SIPP +11.76%, pot +0.27% and the Virgin ISA +5.01% and I'm very pleased to biggest of the lot has the greatest percentage gain! If I could keep that up for the next four years I could call it a day! Won't need to do any watering this weekend, although Sunday promises to be dry at the moment so may take the Stag for a run. Enjoy your weekends. MrP | mrphil
19/8/2016 14:13 | The rain is certainly having a go now, got soaked doing the dead heading in the back garden at lunchtime! Left a few chosen Cosmos seed heads and marked them with sticky tape to remind me to let them ripen for next years crop. The SIPP has been just about hanging on to positive territory so far today, hope it can hang on and end the week on a high. Did well to grab two lots of Euros yesterday, the £ already falling back again. | mrphil
19/8/2016 11:14 | We use these guys | mrphil
19/8/2016 10:55 | 4/7 for me also. Printer inks can really hit the pocket as I found out to my cost, normally I use a compatible supplier in Guernsey, but had to pay through the nose at Curry's this week as I had inadvertently run out on my Canon 3 in 1. A friend has recommended Cartridge Discount in Northumberland and they do next day courier delivery for an extra £3.95. Am trying them out for my other Canon printer. | blueliner
19/8/2016 10:39 | 4/7 for me this week. I knew the answer to 3 of those. DF | deanforester
19/8/2016 10:25 | SXX is getting ahead of its self - sadly only a small holding. | skinny
19/8/2016 10:14 | Its in that range - I believe "we" are looking at the Pocket 2800 Geltex! | skinny
19/8/2016 10:05 | Whatever happened to good old springs?! This one any good? | mrphil
19/8/2016 08:46 | Similar money MrP, but memory foam is out of favour - its "Geltex" these days apparently! | skinny
19/8/2016 08:13 | Morning All. Just 3/7 for me this week and I knew one them! Last time we went looking for a new bed, we ended up buying a fancy memory foam mattress that was "on offer" at half price but was still £1300! I have pretty much hated it ever since as they are completely useless at getting heat away from your body, it's like sleeping on a radiator! I have to have a couple of old sheets folded several times as a barrier between me and the mattress! Give me a decent sprung bed anytime! A very warm feeling 25.4°C yesterday, dropping to 16.6°C last night which was muggy despite a little rain. | mrphil
19/8/2016 05:22 | Good Morning. My SIPP finished up 0.49% yesterday. We spent yesterday afternoon shopping for a new bed - like most things nowadays, the choice is mind boggling! 6/7. | skinny
18/8/2016 20:04 | +0.48% for the Folio. [FTSE 250 +0.63%]. Highest value risers : CLIG +3.5%, BLT +2.8%, PEW +1%, XLM +2.6%. Worst value fallers : IMB -1.7%[(-68.5p) of which xd element comprised 23.5p ], RECI -1.2%. Temp 24C, continuing the drought theme, the garden is in dire need of some serious rainfall. | blueliner
18/8/2016 18:24 | I'm up +0.466% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.143%). Best rises: IMI +4.29%, TW. +2.81% and BLT +2.77%. Worst falls: BATS -2.28% XD, PSON -2.21% XD and INDV -1.95%. I had 6 shares going XD today. Despite that I did better than the market. A good update from Kingfisher. Probus lunch today with the ladies. A carvery was on offer and was very good. We had a quiz and I got 19/30, the winner getting 22/30. We used to make the winner provide the next quiz, but that fell out of favour. Very humid after last night's rain. +15°C first thing. A layer of cloud is keeping the temperature down. Had my final visit to the podiatrist this morning, who expressed herself happy with the state of my big toe. Still some time before it heals completely. DF | deanforester
18/8/2016 17:07 | Good day for the SIPP which managed +0.55% with top risers NG., BRCI & SBRY. The pot only managed +£1.16 on the day but at least it didn't fall! Might need to take our spare piano for repair tonight. It's a Yamaha electric and usually they get condemned when anything goes wrong but it's a lovely piece of kit and we've found a guy that reckons he can fix it for a couple of hundred quid. | mrphil
18/8/2016 10:19 | Retail Sales Data giving a bit of a boost today, especially to the pound which is very welcome as I need to get a few more before the end of the month! | mrphil
18/8/2016 07:41 | Morning All. A high of 25.8°C yesterday as it had one last burst before the rain arrived overnight, although we didn't drop below 16.1°C last night. Feels surprisingly warm this morning, despite the overnight rain. More rain and strong winds due over the next couple of days. Plenty of small yellow wild plums all over the path and they are now falling, but the others are too high up to reach, even with steps. Managed to rescue a small number of fallers which had landed safely but probably only enough for a very small crumble. Almost reached our order intake target for the month, should do it today I would have thought. It will be a frustratingly low output for August though, as we wait for components to arrive to get a couple of large projects into production. | mrphil |
