I see UK PMI dropped to 46.8 in Sept which suggest recession is on its way.

Its gonna be a tough winter for many companies particularly builders, construction (unless long-term contracts) and suppliers..

my smallest holding ogp, which are free shares because sold my original stake. Have just announced a very good statement. They have 20 million cash, and are only 35 million cap..

I only own about 3k worth, so even after todays jump I can't get excited..

You mentioned yesterday that you have 29 stocks in your portfolio, i currently have 22. In retrospect i probably have a little too much in my top 6 or 8 holdings given market conditions and not enough of a spread.

I think i need to look in to adjusting my portfolio in the future to hold more stocks but smaller amounts in them. I dont know but perhaps as many as 35 stocks might be a better, safer number to hold at this time..

Then if you do get a profit warning or softer statement, dividend cut etc you are more diversified and would lose less but conversely of course if you get a takeover you wouldnt benefit as much, thats the flip side i guess.

PHNX marked down 4% at the open for no reason but a significant down-grade by the crooked US bank JPM releasing that into a bad market all the same..

They probably want their clients in before ex-div..

If any of us want a defensive stock then look no further than AZN, a brilliant UK company leading the way in cancer drug development and research.

The shares have performed well over the years.

Base rate held which is a surprise decision. Will help the property companies if this is the peak but still gonna be a tough winter for them..

Start buying Company number 30 over the next few months. Not sure between REL, Teso, or L@G. If I don't get a takeover it will probably take 12 months to buy the position, with spare dividend money etc..I'll buy four 5k installments.

Just finished buying my GRI position. Been buying over the past 6 weeks...

I like the build to rent section, more and more houses/ Luxury flats are needed and grainger are going from over 9000 to over 16000 over the next 2 years they have bollowed the money to massively scale up, up its capped at 3% for 6 years.

Just shows that even Mr Atkinson is suffering along with us all (apart from no-pants trader Lol)....and a wasted recent trip over to the Isle of Man..

This is one of the hardest most difficult bear-markets i have ever encountered. I have a list of 36 stocks i would like to buy but if i woke up to a takeover in my portfolio tomorrow the only stock i would buy with the funds is TSCO..

You have to so careful with all these small-caps and i have no desire to wake-up to a profit warning.

I now have about 20% of my portfolio in insurance so i dont really want to be buying any more in that sector so TSCO it would be..

Bad month for fund manager RC Brown, they have had 4 profit warning. SND, ETP, Strix group and SUP.

The markets have changed now with the economic conditions and high cost of debt.
Small-caps have traditionally been my staple form of investing but not right now.

You need to be more defensive holding insurance stocks or ftse100 stocks like TSCO etc..

You really have to be careful investing into these blue sky small cap companies, most disappoint. Your better off building your Portfolio around companies like CSN and LG. It will help you in less visits to the whiskey cupboard.....

I noticed strix group results, big jump in revenue , big drop in profit. And they have a nerve to bang on about the revenue..

At least CSN dividend is secure (and even growing) as opposed to KETL where it has been slashed 67%...

In fact pretty terrible results from KETL, glad i dont own it.

Solid update from CSN, its now 19 years of increasing the dividend.

Excellent update from FNX, 14% profit growth, 99% reoccurring revenue, increasing the dividend,

Disappointing premiums for those two takeover though..

If you were a long term investor in both those you wouldnt be particularly happy. The only real way to benefit is buying these types of companies when the share prices are very depressed and then wait for something to happen is isnt a very consistent strategy nor very easy..

Both the companies had poor balance sheets so would have been off-putting anyway.
