Keep it up chimps and Little Englanders, at this rate there will not be much left to argue over.

"Nervous investors are shying away from making big bets on the pound because of uncertainty around Brexit, sending the cost of insuring against future price swings in the currency soaring to its highest levels since the UK voted to leave the EU." - FT

Anyone can just look at the depth of vitriol on these boards to realise that there is a very significant problem.

Well done Ladeside! I am just off out in my W8, the Range Rover is immobile yet again; perhaps the Slovakian ones will be better.

If the Tories press on with an epic betrayal of the British public, they should expect an epic punishment Brussels soon got the message that it was not dealing with a premier committed to enacting the democratic wishes of the British people, but someone fearful and incremental in her approach and with a Chancellor determined to subvert Brexit to the greatest possible extent. So it did what it always does when presented with weakness – it brought out the thumbscrews.

Theresa May is on course to betray something a lot bigger than a single industry, even one with the emotive power of the fishing fleet. She is betraying the British public as a whole and is doing so after engaging in extended deceit and subterfuge. This is an experiment in infamy. And as it enters popular mythology it will become even worse in the retelling.

If policy on Brexit continues on the current path they are going to need a genius next time just to avoid a re-run of the massacre of 1997.

I have said, since she was appointed, that she is the Alec Douglas_Home of our time - she slipped in because the abler candidates were so widely hated.

The Douglas-Home situation was resolved by a general election and change of government, but I'm not sure that would work now (unless McDonnell did turn the country into a Soviet and abolish elections). In 5 years or 10 years or 15 years the Conservatives would still be two Parties with scarcely anything in common.

I often wonder if it would be a better choice to send in a hard nosed negotiator to do the job instead of lightweight politicians. This guy used to be a bit fierce but seems to have mellowed a bit.

People. Gloves off. Time to BOYCOTT the EU. The Elite have crushed and twisted and swindled our Democracy. But the People have teeth too and it is time to bare them,

This is a Non – Agreement cobbled together by May and a two-faced Conservative Party. It is trying to fob off the The Referendum Result and sell this 'agreement'. But in effect it is REMAIN all dressed up in new clothing and method. This will never be harmonious, and now may be the time to consider various campaigns such as whether to buy German cars for example. 17 million voted against staying in the EU. That is a lot of buying power. Think before buy now.
Campaign. The politicians have not listened. The Economic War. THE PEOPLE RULE OK!

German cars and apes

German cars unfinished business

And there is the consideration of Continental European wine. Many fine and exciting wines found outside Europe.

The EUSSR has stated publically it wants to HURT the UK. We can HURT the EUSSR too, particulay Germany and Vichy France. Spanish holiday. Think.

The People can vote and not be listened to. BUT THE PEOPLE CAN ACT . Think before buying from the EUSSR

Pass it on. BOYCOTT the EUSSR. Pass it on.

Brexit LIVE: Theresa May offered BRUSSELS LIFELINE - why is EU so desperate to SAVE PM?

THERESA MAY’s Brexit withdrawal agreement is facing defeat in a vote on December 11 – but EU has given her a lifeline with the offer of an Article 50 extension.

WHY? The value of the Euro is going to drop off the edge of a cliff without that 39 billion from us – the British.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

The EU is not friends. They are robbers.

AZ - good question as usual. I really don't know at this very late moment. Could be extend Art 50 until end 2019 - take time to select candidates (unlikely to be a BOJO, Mogg & co) and basically start again. Unlikely to happen as it would make the UK a laughing stock, quite rightly. It would though lessen potential chaos. More likely it will be a muddle through which will cost later.

Who would replace May?
That is a good question.
A hard Brexiteer, a remainer or a soft brexiteer?
the battle for the leadership would be just a chaotic as now.

Maybe a quiet diplomatic peacemaker like Jeremy hunt could be the man.

occasionally a quiet man is required, numerous such examples.
unification and reducing the temperature will be the aim, a sort of coalition.

While I have a serious moment (year end trades all done) these falls in domestic shares will have adversely impacted pension plans. Bad moments for personal plans and companies will have to make up the shortfall over time. Not read this yet on the boards.

grahamite - I have never been a TM fan and if you will remember I was close to a minority of one here when she was appointed. That view has not changed.

What I do find strange is that throughout the two years or so there has been no influence or action from the cabinet. Are the cabinet ministers over that time BOJO, David, Gove, Raab and company so weak and ineffective, are they frightened of her. It makes no sense to me. If that was a major company board (ignore rogue companies) it just would not have happened.

Grahamite, this is not a flippant post. I really do not understand why TM has remained in that position for so long. Your views will be appreciated.

Democracy is Democracy

TREACHERY is TREACHERY

DUMP MAY

Or CONSERVATIVE PARTY RIP

I have no confidence in this government.

And maybe 17 million other people also have no confidence in this government.

Do the maths. It is the end of the Conservative Party.

May should show leadership and ignore that vote.
She is the first lord of the treasury, her first responsibility is to the country,
not the masses with their football crowd mentality and intellect.

Them them vote or sack their leaders, that is more than enough democracy.

ERG members and the vote
By JOHNREDWOOD | Published: DECEMBER 6, 2018
I was not present at the meeting I read about between the ERG and the Chief Whip as I was speaking on the advantages of leaving when the meeting was said to have taken place.

It is quite clear there is no UK Parliamentary fix that the government could offer to make the Agreement acceptable. The whole point about the Withdrawal Treaty is it will override anything the UK Parliament might want to do in future were we stupid enough to sign it.

I assume those ERG members who were present will have the same view as I do that the current Agreement is unacceptable and would take a lot of amendment by the EU and UK working together on it before they could consider voting for it. I would go further and think it would be best to observe the words of the Conservative Manifesto which said a Future Trading or Partnership Agreement has to be negotiated in parallel with any Withdrawal Agreement.
