Yes grahamite2, I'd like to think so too but as we know they are very often wrong. How can they tell whether a respondent gives a truthful answer? What happens if they are unsure about a response do they get classed as a don't know, which may turn out differently on poll day?

A pollster's accuracy is its business, so I don't believe they intentionally falsify polls.

My best bet is, people get sick to the back teeth with politicians they see on the news every day, no matter what their views and what they stand for. "A plague o' both their houses" sort of thing.

Poikka: yes, I'm puzzled too by Penny Morduant. Problem for her now though think she may have left it too late to resign if she wants to stand for leadership. Same with Gove. All the rest still in cabinet tarnished by association with May's rubbish deal. Very disappointed in softening by Dr.Liam Fox and Andrea Leadsom.
Like JRM too and sure would be a good PM, but he has a young family and perhaps may not want job at present.

Boris at his brilliant best on Marr this morning. Backstop, 'a legal lobster pot'.
So polar fox, do you trust a YouGov poll carried out for a remain Sunday paper? Any idea of the sample size? Was it an on-line poll, favoured by younger remainer types? I've never been asked anything by pollsters in my life and convinced that they have ways of filtering out people who they think will give the wrong answer.

Ah, I did manage to find it:

“Hate crime goes directly against the long-standing British values of unity, tolerance and mutual respect – and I am committed to stamping this sickening behaviour out.”

Sickening? ffs

I sincerely hope that that view is not replicated within the Tory membership!!

PENNY MORDAUNT

Wonder what her game is: she's been keeping us and the PM, presumably, guessing for quite a while about her intentions. Now, I hear that she may make a decision in the next day or so about whether she'll resign from the Cabinet.

Is she trying to grab the limelight, or is she waiting to see if the PM will climb down and try to get a better deal from the "no better deal" EU?

Btw, JRMogg is so clear-headed and eloquent. He definitely should be PM, but maybe he doesn't want to be.

And here's me discussing who should replace May - along with the rest of the UK. What doesn't she get!

Boris who? Don't tell anyone in Cheshire about this survey for the ST:

Who do the public support for next PM? None of them.

Theresa May may not survive if her Brexit deal suffers a serious defeat in parliament, but a new poll today reveals the public are indifferent about the list of her potential successors.

According to a YouGov survey for The Sunday Times, all the major Tory leadership contenders have negative net approval ratings, with voters taking a similarly dim view of May loyalists and those who oppose her Brexit deal.

If the prime minister resigns this week, Sajid Javid is the most popular candidate to replace her. The home secretary, who is on minus 18% in the poll, is followed by the former Brexit secretaries David Davis (-19%) and Dominic Raab (-21%). Amber Rudd is next on minus 23%.

Nigel Farage unveils plan to form new party to fight 'biggest battle yet' for independence from EU

By Christopher Hope, Chief Political Correspondent
8 December 2018 • 5:47pm

Nigel Farage has said it is his "destiny" to fight for Brexit as he unveils his plans to launch a new political party to fight next year's European Parliament elections if the Government delays Britain's exit from the European Union.

The former leader of the UK Independence Party told The Sunday Telegraph that he believed he had "not fought my biggest battle yet" and would relish the battle at May's Euro elections, which he expects to be held if Brexit is delayed.

Talks have been going on for a number of months about his new party but have been stepped in the past fortnight as the full detail of Theresa May's Brexit deal has emerged.

Today in the Midlands newspaper Express and Star

Revealed: Major rise in EU migrants in the Black Country after Brexit vote

The number of EU migrants living in the Black Country has shot up since the Brexit vote, new figures show. The region had 71,000 migrants from EU countries living here in June this year, a rise of 48 per cent on the figure from June 2016 when the EU referendum took place.

People in the Black Country voted overwhelmingly to leave the EU, with concerns over immigration cited as one of the key reasons behind the strong support for Brexit.

But according to new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the region has seen some of the highest levels of European migration of anywhere in the UK since the vote.

Nationally, the the number of EU residents has risen by nine per cent.

The data shows that the number of EU citizens coming to live in Sandwell more than doubled from 14,000 to 31,000 – a spike of 121 per cent – with migration from Romania and Bulgaria up by a staggering 400 per cent.

One in 10 Sandwell residents is now from Europe, compared with 5.7 per cent across the UK.

In Walsall the number of EU migrants rose from 9,000 in 2016 to 13,000 this year, with European citizens now accounting for 4.7 per cent of the town's population.

Somebody said there could be three resignations before Tuesday. Here's one, from some unknown Tory pygmy:

SKY: Will Quince has resigned as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson saying he "cannot support" Prime Minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement.
