Diane Abbott was a founder member with Russ Abbott of 60's pop group the ''Black Abbotts''.

Jealousy by other band members of Russ shagging Diane were put paid to when Russ and Diane were caught by police in Hyde Park at the free Rolling Stones Concert in full view of fans shagging up against an ancient Oak tree with Mick Jagger, Keith Richard and Minerve waiting for their turn.

THe Old Bailey judge let Big Diane off with a caution, Russ was fined £500 for being caught 'with an offensive person on his weapon'..

So, when our government say that our NHS is ready to handle the situation you know reality if it grips our nation like it has done Italy. The only thing in our favour is that our demographic is slightly younger.

The chief of Lombardy's regional crisis response unit has told the Italian press that the health system was "a step away from collapse" as northern Italy quarantined 16m people in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.

“We are now being forced to set up intensive care treatment in corridors, in operating theaters, in recovery rooms. We have emptied entire hospital wards to make space for people in critical condition,” Antonio Pesenti, chief of the Lombardy regional crisis response unit, told Il Corriere della Sera newspaper.

“One of the best health systems in the world, in Lombardy is a step away from collapse” he added.

There is a lot to be said for businesses being well capitalised with ample working capital. Apologies for the foul language.

Cruise capacity was becoming overcrowded just like the airline industry. I doubt the virus will deter new capacity coming on board long-term, there will just be more second-hand ships and planes for sale/lease and the continual overcapacity - yet again.

I stay clear of both of these generally although I did make an exception with EasyJet just over a year ago.

We are all facing the inevitable fact that the covid flu is here and among us. To most of us, it will pass through largely unnoticed or a week off colour. The sooner we all get it, the sooner we get through it, get immune and stop the spread to our vulnerable and old. It's going to happen and I realise we dont have enough ventilators to cope with the peak. But as for normal working person, covid will barely make them break sweat for a couple of days so dont think it will bring industry down. Only the hype and panic will do that.

Interesting:

As industry executives nervously size each other up, attention has naturally focused on Norwegian, in many ways the Flybe of transatlantic travel. This weekend it was forced to deny industry rumours that a Dreamliner it has permanently parked up next to the impound site at Gatwick is there as collateral for the airport should its stretched finances snap. Plenty believe they will.

For most of the airline industry, capacity cuts represent a sudden change of course. As recently as December, IATA’s chief economist was forecasting more increases to capacity. An extra 2,100 aircraft were due to join the global fleet, piling further downward pressure on prices. ➡️ Last year the average inflation – adjusted return fare was due to be 62pc lower than in 1998. ⬅️

Very sensible. We are keeping ourselves to ourselves and have begun online grocery shopping for the first time. Living on a farm helps as life continues much as usual. Italy's latest response ought to be being adopted everywhere. Short term acute disruption always beats a long term grind. The past three to four years is evidence enough of this.
