03/8/2019 18:50 | LifelogicPosted August 2, 2019 at 10:49 am |Permalink"10 tax free ports to be created after EU exit" Well if 10 are a good idea why not make the whole of the UK a tax free port, free of unnecessary checks and paperwork and with liberated planning laws? Why should this just apply to 10 ports rather than others who will be the lucky owners? It is just discrimination and unfair competition. I though this woke government wanted equality. They even have Rudd as Minster Women and Equality. And a competition authority. All places are equal but some are more equal than others it seems.Reply?Sir Joe SoapPosted August 2, 2019 at 4:29 pm |PermalinkWhy not make NI one large freeport?Wouldn't that solve a certain small problem? | xxxxxy
03/8/2019 17:51 | How about the attempted trade deal with India? The Indian government insisted that Indian students in uk universities must be given the right to stay in the uk if they wished. otherwise, no trade deal. We gave in, so much for controlling immigration. We shall be met with all sorts of demands and condition when we negotiate our own trade deals. We are better off inside the EU. you will realise that, but far too late. The eu. is a union, the clue is in the title, collective strength and self support because we are too weak on our own in a hostile World. That is why we joined in the first place. | careful
03/8/2019 17:43 | grahamite whether the tax is immoral or any other tax for that matter has nothing to do with it. We are a sovereign country and America is threatening no trade deal unless we change our tax proposals. So much for great, simple trade deals, and as Farage shouted in that barking loud voice of his; 'today is out Independence Day'. We are losing our independence if that tax is changed after American threats. A vassal state, unable to make our own tax decisions. You must be worried at this development, you are not that stupid. And Boris Johnson will be as well. | careful
03/8/2019 16:51 | What part of losing our individual veto don't you understand. | steve4003
03/8/2019 16:31 | You will find that you are in fact losing your influence and independence by leaving the EU. How can you be dominated by the eu. when we are important members who help make the rules and can veto any rules we do not like? We are about to be dominated by America. If you read that piece I quoted above already the USA are ordering us to cancel our new tax on American internet giants. It will be interesting to see if our new chancellor obeys this instruction. I see this whole process right now as slowly, very slowly, educating brexiteers. | careful

03/8/2019 15:10 | Worry about American threats on trade talks with the UK. Todays Telegraph reports that trade talks will not even begin unless the UK withdraws its plan to tax the American internet giants. 2% on turnover was proposed in the budget, and comes into effect in the next few months. These companies are crushing everyone and they pay hardly any tax. Ken Clarke has experience of trade talks and he said that it is difficult to sell into America. But as Warren Buffett once said, buying stuff is easy, but selling stuff is more difficult. Also in the same paper today it says that the congressmen who deal with trade talks are worried the uk has not got the ability to do trade talks. They have not negotiate a trade deal for 40 years. The Americans are bullies and ruthless, and these trade talks have not even started yet. Already they are ordering us to change our tax decisions or else. We all remember how they treated BP and the outrageous billions payed out in compensation after the oil spill. We should stick with the EU. they have the size and power to keep the American internet giants in check. | careful
