It makes you wonder who what happened to the defence. I didn't follow the case closely.

Of all my friends, just one thought Farmer Martin should have been convicted of manslaughter. Everyone else thought he should have been acquitted. Nobody thought murder was appropriate.

So the question remains, how the hell did the authorities manage to find 12 good men and true to convict of murder? Very, very suspicious.

Gone with the Wind has been taken off HBO Max following calls for it to be removed from the US streaming service.

I bet most of these morons had never heard of some of these men/statues before this all blew up.

I certainly hadn't! Every town is littered with monuments to people nobody's ever heard of.

I bet most of these morons had never heard of some of these men/statues before this all blew up. When they take these statues down they erode our identity as British subjects. Our identity is formed by good things and bad things, successes and mistakes. They take down these statues without concern for our thoughts and opinions and in return want us to consider them. It isn't going to happen with me if they continue in this quest.

Graham.

In my view the moral decay and rot set in with farmer Martin's conviction for it overturned the concept that ones home is ones castle and can be defended from any thieving scumbag who enters illegally.

Open season for criminals knowing one could no longer defend ones home.
(And knowing we are mostly now unarmed as well)

As a matter of law he certainly shouldn't be convicted of murder - I looked up the Minnesota Penal Code. But juries can be got at. There was always something very fishy about poor old Farmer Martin's conviction for murder.

Yes, I put myself in that bracket, I believe I am centrist even though I get labelled a lefty. The taking down of statues and defacing of statues really angers me.

The far right in England = two blokes in a bedsit in Nuneaton. It's not really a thing.

What the vandalism and thuggery will do is distress and anger middle England, millions and millions of perfectly ordinary people.

The reality is, and as romantic as it sounds, equality will never happen even if it is a utopian goal. Also, sadly, you would be foolish to allow to happen because you give an inch and they take a yard. You empower the 'opponents' and human nature most likely will lead to the oppressor becoming the oppressed. Don't get me wrong, we should strive for equality, we should be friends with all we can be, but we should not head blindly into these things based on some romantic ideology. Because of our history and because of their history true equality will take centuries and only idiots think it can be done overnight. Taking down statues does nothing. It is just empowers the far-right, and to some extent, you can't blame them.

Yes the police should be held on the charge the manslaughter.

He's been charged with murder, a charge that cannot be sustained. No doubt there will be lots more fun and games if he is acquitted.
