Astonishing amount of cog bias there fella - the arb trade either works or it doesn't
- and that's all there is - just adapt your risk to benefit from that 50/50 scenario

All I keep hearing from the United States is the United States is 25% of world GDP while Russia is only 2%, therefore we are 12 1/2 times more economically powerful then Russia is.

Sorry USA, but NO. The USA mainly only produces USD while Russia produces commodities the world desperately needs. Japan buys more oil and gas from Russia than Germany does and they are still buying the same amount.

India is saying if the USA starts to put sanctions on them like they are starting to do on China, then all that would happen is that India will start to move away from the United States, trade less with them and move towards China and Russia as India say that Russia has been a good trading partner with India for the past 70 years and that India will not give this up.

The taking and retaking of territory in the Ukraine is all about the amount of leverage each country has during formal talks with each other.

It seems to me Ukraine is willing to cede Crimea to Russia and maybe accept Donbass being independent, however Russia also wants the land bridge to the crime is why the Russian's are blasting hell out of Mariupol which the Ukrainians definitely do not want to give up this area.

Biggest Bill,

Not sure the NAV is going to be realistic. Russian market has partially re-opened but with heavy restrictions that are distorting the market. Foreign buyers aren't able to sell, no short positions allowed and Russian government buying over $10bln of shares. Only 33 of 50 shares being traded on the MOEX. Hardly an orderly market.

Rouble approaching 96 to the USD.

Russia will be able to use the Roubles it gets from the EU to pay for goods from the likes of China, India and other non-sanctioning countries which means Russia and Russian companies need far less USD on their books.

Sanctions on Russia will not work unless China is onboard and it seems to me for the foreseeable future China will not get onboard with sanctioning Russia.

Up, why?

MOEX reopened and wasn’t marked to zero.

Time and patience needed here.

Don’t just stand there, Do Nothing!

Best investment advice I ever received.

There's old Sunak, the UK Chancellor saying Britain is doing the right thing by sanctioning Russia even if it means the average British household having to pay double for their heating bills and British industry paying double for their energy needs.

For Russia's own industry, their energy is cheap because they produce their own.

Britain became great, an industrial powerhouse in the late 1700's and 1800's due to cheap coal, the USA became great in the 1900's due to their cheap oil

That must be because the demand for Roubles (or Rubles even) is really, really strong. Probably the wealthy tourists buying on their holidays.

Longaair, Spot on!

Russian Gas is going to cost 10X (high cost of buying limited circulation Ruble) what it is costing the "unfriendly countries" today and this will happen fast, no later than May 2022!

The markets are going to go into free fall for sure as Oil and Gas costs will cause shutdowns of industries in the "unfriendly countries" who have to buy Russian Gas and Oil.

Rouble now 128 to the pound and 97 to the USD which means the Rouble has strengthened by circa 30% over the past couple of weeks.

Russia selling their oil and Gas to the EU in Roubles will mean the EU having to buy and hold 2 or 3 months reserve of Roubles.

The EU buys €600mln of gas and oil from Russia daily = €18bln per month.

Such a huge amount of garbage posted by the pro-Putin fanboys on here.
Russia demanding payment for oil and gas only in roubles is breach of contract, and the Germans have already gleeful cancelled several burdensome arrangements as a consequence. So an own goal.
Etcetera, etcetera.
This is going to round trip back to 80p today. There was a similarly brutal intraday spike a week or so ago.
