Excellent results in the circumstances and the operating environment will certainly get easier as rates get cut , growth returns and advertising budgets turn positive.
A couple of points vs comments earlier.
There will continue to be plenty of bears of advertising or UK plc. Many of these are short , but many of those will remain as such, at least for the time being. The only thing that would force their hand is a bid , & despite the continued BS , there’s zero evidence of that currently. So don’t expect a short squeeze.
Also , don’t get ahead of yourselves on the buyback. The CEO said 18 months to complete for a reason , which is as I mentioned earlier this week. The rules on buybacks are extremely stringent and make them passive. They are limited by the % of daily volume , and only what trades on exchange , ie the order book . You will get a daily rns going forward of what has been bought , and I promise you it will be a frustratingly low number. It adds a small bid daily (when active), nothing more (apart from the earnings accretion when the shares are cancelled).
A good day.

I think your 80p by the summer is a bit pessimistic Curtains. I’m hoping the momentum can keep going with these buy backs and pass 80p long before I dust off my bbq.

I was surprised. I thought it would open 8% up (see my early post) but it took 2.5 hours to get here.. Sorry about that...
But generally speaking I think we should get to over 70p within a short period (days?) and over 80p by the summer.... But of course anything can happen and probably will.
Shares move really FAST sometimes so I might have this totally wrong..

Rent-o-kill up 13% on FTSE100.. REsults

Coats up over 9% on FTSE250 Results

We have results and buyback and Budget tax breaks and Olympic games..

We get a better picture of where we are if we look at the 5 year view

Take 2023: for about 50% of the time we had a higher price back then.

Shorters hate buybacks because they catch them with their pants down and costs them lots of money. The shorters feel humiliated and angry so try to (unsuccessfully) bash the buybacks whilst in the meantime frantically trying to cover their positions. Very funny to watch.

I would think that we will all recognise what the BS near the end of your moniker stands for.

71p seems a reasonable short run target... But by the summer we should really be heading to 80p as ITVx starts to win Olympic adverts.....

ITV has been a disaster since McCall and her BOD's took over. That said, if they can double the share price with all the forced buyers in the market then 130p could be a realistic target in the coming months.

Sadly though still way short of the price when they took over.

Saw an interesting post over on the LSE community. Is the 2% short amount correct?

Half a billion shares to be found?

We now know the buyback cap is 402.5 million shares.

But we also know there is just under 2% open short interest - and once these investors hit their profit or loss target they are also forced buyers to close, and 2% of available shares is about 81 million shares.

So the market needs to find just under 0.48 billion shares in the near future which is just under 12% of the 4.05 billion available.

SimplyWallSt also tells us that the general public / retail owns just under 5% of the available shares.

Which means that a large shareholder will have to become a motivated seller - and the only possible motivation is price - and they will want a profit - which I doubt exists for any of the major shareholders below £1.

Liberty, RWC, Schroders, Silchester etc etc are all major (and long term) major shareholders. Good luck getting their shares.

So situation
Sale of Britbox for loads of money...
Great share buyback....
Results "better than expected" by many people.
Budget given great help to ITV studios - tax relief etc etc..

The Olympic Games are good for ITV too - not because so many
watch them on ITV but rather because advertisers want to advertise
so many sports products and drinks.... (and Eurostar trips to Paris
to see them)....

Add new poster jubberjim to the list of shorters lurking and panicking.

I'm looking forward to a string of blue days over the coming days, weeks and months driven on by the lads and lasses at Morgan Stanley,

lol

the stopped clocks now congratulating themselves on the pleb thread that they have been right all along and itv not going bust...

imagine what they could have achieved if they understood what happens to companies like itv in a down turn....

a gift from the economy where your get to double you money every now and then...

now, instead of watching their money double they are waiting to get to even

ill be enjoying the wait - thats for sure :)

Ooooo can you feel the force as the shares are being mopped up from the shorters as their paid bashers try to stick the boot in! Love the feeling 😎

All about timescales. This is perfect for an ISA and IMO a very sound investment. It offers a strong dividend and the possibility of capital appreciation. Plus one day, you may wake up and a bids been tabled. That's my kind of investment, I'm not looking for the next shiny thing.
